I think one of the Johns was looking at a long grocery list, or maybe even just a mental list of things to do that day, and thought to themselves "Shit, man, I'm like a grocery bag," and the song came out of that. Not all of their songs have some huge message, or "say something." Sometimes they write stuff for their own amusement, sometimes little situations like the grocery shopping that seems strangely poetic.

There might be some link ^^ to "Dead", where they sing about re-incarnation as a grocery bag. I think this song is a sequel to Dead.
