Church of the Poison Mind Lyrics
Desolate loving in your eyes
You used and made my life so sweet
Step out like a god found child
I saw your eyes across the street
Who would be the fool to take you
Be more that just kind?
Step into a life of maybe
Love is hard to find in the church of the poison mind
In the church of the poison mind
In the church of the poison mind
In the church of the poison mind
In the church of the poison mind
In the church of the poison mind
In the church of the poison mind
Watch me clinging to the beat
I had to fight to make it mine
That religion you could sink it neat
Just move your feet an' you'll feel fine
Who would be the fool to maybe
Trick a kiss in time?
Who am I to say that's crazy?
Love will make you blind
In the church of the poison mind
In the church of the poison mind
In the church of the poison mind
In the church of the poison mind
In the church of the poison mind
In the church of the poison mind

I really think this song is about a man who falls in love with a Christian (or otherwise religious) gay man who can't resolve his own feelings so it ruins the relationship. Pretty much all of the lyrics make sense to me through that lens.
@percodanny I can see what you're saying and the lyrics have always puzzled me. It's like 'Karma Chameleon' in that the mood of the lyrics clashes with the mood of the style. I think you're right, but what's odd is that the gospel choir on it is genuine and it makes me wonder how conservative they were and if they knew what they were doing at the time.

This is a good song one of the best culture club songs i think!
I personally think this song is about some drug addicted loser who joins a cult, hence the lyrics "In the church of the poison mind". And to back up this explination this song came out not soon before Boy George came out about his drug addiction so this song may be hinting at that.
Almost everything he sings has to do with his sexuality. This songs is talking about the hypocritical views of some judgemental church folks who might have said harsh things about him.The world was sooo much harder back then on gay folks. For him to have come out in drag was very risky. But he had lot's of courage.

@fragilekissxx hey love! I remember being so into George that I'd dress like him. Around that same time I saw an interview that disappointed me beyond belief. He said that most of his lyrics were nonsensical and written about his feverish affair with Jon Moss. So there you have it. I'd wanted deeper meaning in all of his lyrics. I think I can say the same for Jimmy Paige and everything he wrote for Plant to sing. A lot of it was lifted straight from the writings of either Tolkien or Crowley, but they weren't even his own words. Two...

Two times I was disappointed that the musings of these great artists didn't turn out to be the Rimbauds of music. Hope you're alive and well in 2020!

maybe it's about being mindful of what and who we believe.
Ok this song is all about the church of scientology and how L. Ron hubbard practiced satanic rituals with goats and ken dolls.
