I agree that the song is written to take on MANY meanings. When I listen, the lyrics become so weird oddly specific to my own experience that it almost seems like they were written for that purpose — all while knowing damn-well that this is impossible. My sister and I have both struggled with addiction, and our mother is… let’s say “overbearing”. I was always the favorite of 4 kids, being the only boy. Throughout our lives, we both propped each other up at different times —leaned on each other. But there was always some point where the negativity and waste of potential became too much for the other to have to handle or even witness. The first time I realized this, I imagined my sister singing this to me. And I cried my eyes out. But then I realized how it could cut both ways. It really is open to interpretation. Genius songwriting. |

| I really think this song is about a man who falls in love with a Christian (or otherwise religious) gay man who can't resolve his own feelings so it ruins the relationship. Pretty much all of the lyrics make sense to me through that lens. | |
