Bring Him Home Lyrics
(Valjean is standing over Marius at the barricade)
VALJEAN
God on high
Hear my prayer
In my need
You have always been there
He is young
He's afraid
Let him rest
Heaven blessed.
Bring him home
Bring him home
Bring him home.
He's like the son I might have known
If God had granted me a son.
The summers die
One by one
How soon they fly
On and on
And I am old
And will be gone.
Bring him peace
Bring him joy
He is young
He is only a boy
You can take
You can give
Let him be
Let him live
If I die, let me die
Let him live
Bring him home
Bring him home
Bring him home.
God on high
Hear my prayer
In my need
You have always been there
He's afraid
Let him rest
Heaven blessed.
Bring him home
Bring him home
Bring him home.
If God had granted me a son.
The summers die
One by one
How soon they fly
On and on
And I am old
And will be gone.
Bring him joy
He is young
He is only a boy
You can give
Let him be
Let him live
If I die, let me die
Let him live
Bring him home
Bring him home
Bring him home.

This is pretty self explanitory, Valjean is praying that Marius may live, and be at peace, for he is only a boy. He asks god to take him instead.
I love this song, the notes and melody really give off a feeling of sadness, and I find it very powerful when music does this to me.
Great, great song from the best musical of all time.
As this song is addressed to God(God on High) I cannot help but think at the choice of words "Bring him home"....in a spiritual sense "home" can mean Heaven. Now I know Heaven isn't want Valjean is requesting, however I cannot help but finding "home" to be a poor choice in words.
