Melody Of You Lyrics
You're a painting with symbols deep
Symphony soft as it shifts from dark
Beneath a poem that flows, caressing my skin
In all of these things, you reside
And I want you flow
From the pen, bow, and brush
With paper and string and canvas tight
With ink in the air to dust your light
From morning to the black of night
This is my call, I belong to you
This is my call to sing the melodies of you
This is my call, I can do nothing else
I can do nothing else
You're the scent of an unfound bloom
A simple tune I only write variations to
A drink that will knock me down to the floor
A key that will unlock the door
Where I hear a voice sing familiar themes
Then beckons me weave notes in-between
A bow and a string, a tap and a glass
You pour me till the day has passed
This is my call, I belong to you
This is my call to sing the melodies of you
This is my call, I can do nothing else
I can do nothing else
Symphony soft as it shifts from dark
Beneath a poem that flows, caressing my skin
In all of these things, you reside
And I want you flow
From the pen, bow, and brush
With paper and string and canvas tight
With ink in the air to dust your light
From morning to the black of night
This is my call to sing the melodies of you
This is my call, I can do nothing else
I can do nothing else
A simple tune I only write variations to
A drink that will knock me down to the floor
A key that will unlock the door
Where I hear a voice sing familiar themes
Then beckons me weave notes in-between
A bow and a string, a tap and a glass
You pour me till the day has passed
This is my call to sing the melodies of you
This is my call, I can do nothing else
I can do nothing else

This is my favourite song of all time. It is just so mind-blowingly beautiful, in every aspect and angle that a song could be.
I am in awe of the beauty of the world when I listen to this.
this is a beautiful song - beautiful melody - indeed. every time I hear it, I can hardly believe that sixpence none the richer sang "kiss me" also.
I love the idea of "this is my call .... " because it carries two implications, two drastically different ideas:
or
They also sang a godawful cover of There She Goes. Sorry, but I much prefer the original, having given both plenty of listens.
Her call, so to speak, is that which disturbs the flow of her every day life, that so that she is pulled from what she wants to achieve, and what she has to.
hm, i always thought this song was about God, and that "her call" was to obey Him.
I think Sixpence makes some of their lyrics vague on purpose. I actually think it is both as the same time in that teh band sees God in their art.
This blows all other Sixpence songs out of the water.. its so beautiful, and to me, a lot deeper than their other stuff. I love the instrumental end if this song.
To respond to catherineksm, I think the second idea is the correct one, because following "this is my call" she sings "I can do nothing else" almost like the will/calling to sing the melody is so powerful she can't do anything else.
Her call is to sing of who God is and everything He's done, and she can see it in every song she writes, every note she sings =]
this song is about how god has given her a purpose and if she wants to complete someone eles purpose she wont be able to because god gave her one pupose and that is calling. that is why she says i can do nothing else.
i read somewhere else that the guitarist wrote these lyrics and it was an attempt at copying the voice of David, the psalms of the bible. that makes so much sense because David was known for being reall good at playing a harp, and this song has a harp or appegiated feel to it. and yes its about God :)
