Jesus Loves His Babies Lyrics
Jesus loves his babies
Outside in the sunshine
I don't mind, no
I don't mind
Jesus loves his babies
Even when they're out of line
I don't mind, no
I don't mind
I'm fine
Jesus loves his crazies
Keeping pennies with the line
I don't mind, no
I don't mind
Jesus loves his babies
Outside in the sunshine
Sunshine over here
*Phone ringing*
Billy [Spoken]: Hi this is Billy, I'm not home right now, but leave your name and number and I'll get back to you. *beep*
Jimmy [Spoken, pitch-shifted down, as Jesus Christ]: Billy, Billy, pick up the phone, I know you're home. It's Jesus. I'm very angry with you. I'm going to punish you, Billy! Hahahaha! I'm going to punish you, Billy! Can you hear me Billy? Are you listening? I hope you're listening Bil-ly!
Outside in the sunshine
I don't mind, no
I don't mind
Even when they're out of line
I don't mind, no
I don't mind
Keeping pennies with the line
I don't mind, no
I don't mind
Outside in the sunshine
Billy [Spoken]: Hi this is Billy, I'm not home right now, but leave your name and number and I'll get back to you. *beep*

I have what's at the end, it's:
[phone rings] "Hi, this is Billy I'm not home right now, but you can leave your number and I'll get back to you. Billy, Billy, pick up the phone, I know you're there. It's Jesus, I'm very angry at you. I'm going to punish you Billy [Laughs]I'm going to punish you Billy [more laughs]. Can you hear me Billy? Are you listening? I hope you're listening Billy."
LOLOL
only billy corgan would get a phone call from jesus!
It is most likely, IMO, seeing this is a gish era song is that A.) The song was not "serious" enough for the record and B.)any pumpkins song mentioning "sunshine" back then is probably about LSD, at least in part.
maybe this was recorded when billy became a christian, at first glance i think it may be saying something posotive about Jesus, but maybe this is before he became a christian, and its saying something negative, im not really sure.
I think he is making fun of jesus, hence the part in it where Jesus leaves the message on Billy's answering machine. I think that's in jest.
Jesus loves his babies, I'm not in the sunshine.. I think thats pretty much saying Jesus loves his babies but im not one of them. I think the whole theme in the song is 'I dont care about Jesus.'
This is on Mashed Potatoes, so it's very early and before Gish, so it's before he became a "Christian" (he says he's a very...different Christian).
It's very good and I estimate and it was written sometime in 1990, but didn't make it on Gish. On Mashed Potatoes it says "Jesus Loves His Babies (Outtake 91)", so that pretty much clears everything up. I don't understand why it didn't make it onto Gish, it's such a great song. Maybe they thought it would offend people and wouldn't have a good reputation, I don't know. But I do know bands always want their debuts to have good reputations.
I agree with love is suicide... why is the answering machine at the end left out? the part where jesus condemns some guy named billy is really important to the lyrics. It's saying that jesus is made out to love his children, but the bible always talks about how people will burn in hell if they do this and that.
There are two versions of this song floating out there. The studio one has the answering machine bit at the end. These lyrics were taken from the other version recorded at a live show, hence the opening banter. The live version's a lot muddier.
And I don't think Billy's exactly making fun of Jesus, I just think that he always assumes Jesus has a problem with him. That's why he wrote this song. It samples Jesus calling Billy, and He's saying that He's angry with him. Think about it. The assumption that Billy's making fun of Jesus is also a possibility.
