These Dreams Lyrics

She lies on the bed
With her hands in her head
And she screams
He gets a kick out of losing the plot so it seems
He makes you all laugh
So she's the one doing harm
But how can you fight
When she's not the one under his arm

These dreams have let you down
Take it don't break it just turn it around
These dreams won't let you down

You never stopped loving his misfortunate lazy ways
All the memories that you should've had
Are a cabaret haze
There's just a hole where you know he should've been
There's no one worse off than you
When you can't describe what you've seen

These dreams have let you down
Take it don't break it just it turn around
These dreams won't let you down

Where do you go when you're all alone in your bed
Do you cry in your sleep cos it's better unsaid
Have you forgotten your past because
That's how it seems
Is it too hard to think so you edit your dreams
And play them back again and again

These dreams have let you down
Take it don't break it just turn it around
These dreams won't let you down

These dreams have let you down
Take it don't break it just turn it around
These dreams won't let you down

You've got tomorrow tomorrow (x5)

This song is simply BEAUTIFUL. I don't know anything about its background, or inspiration, but I know how it makes me feel. It touches me so much. I'm one of those people that doesn't show frustration that much, and I seem to express it in my dreams, or when I go to bed. That's when I face my own demons and when I realise that, in fact, I'm stuck. I know it might be just my interpretation because of my own experience, but to me Rob is talking to a girl who always seems to get caught up with the same guy. All she can do is dream her life away, since reality is so far to what she wanted it to be. She relives the same old moments and feelings and "edits" them in her head, to not hurt so much, but her pain is unavoidable. I also get the feeling that the guy has just used her and that he's got another woman in his life ("How can you fight when she's not the one under his arm?"). He has misused her and left her bitter...("all the memories you should've had are a cabaret haze"). He's gone ("there's just a hole where you know he should've been")... "Where do you go when you're all alone in your bed, do you cry in your sleep cos it's better unsaid; have you forgotten your past because that's how it seems..." Damn, she is perfectly aware of the deception she has suffered, but she can't help it, she keeps making the same mistakes over and over, probably falling for his lies and getting caught up again. Basically, the story of my life : (

The "You've got tomorrow" at the end just gives the perfect ending to this song, filling you up with hope, saying that you might get out of that hole you're in. It makes me cry, remembering so clearly the time of my life when I used to listen to it all the time, when I was estranged and deceived by the guy I loved the most (2003) and how (after all) still I'm in the same situation today. I'm the same woman editing and reliving her dreams, suffering when it comes to wake up and face the truth and the day.

@Gabigs I think you hit the hammer on the nail so well it went straight through and out the other side as if using a nail gun on a way too thin piece of wood. Emotionally open, sincere, thoughtful, lengthy, and insightful, or the really short version: Perfection. Thank you. 2006! Wow, that’s a couple of days ago, huh? Instantly thought “I wonder how she’s doing now, hopefully, happy or at least content which reminds me of the following. Now 43, I’ve been a Robbie fanboy since Take That hit the big time on MTV (back when they actually played music), read a biography...
