The Odyssey Lyrics
What would you do if you finally believed in yourself,
but you just don't know your ass from a hole in the ground
so true its a violation
hide yourself from the same old memories
your image is your invitation
there's no time for sleep so mother fucker come on
Welcome to the odyssey.
Prancing through a black hole in the sky
from the 30th century so you'll feel like me
you traded in your high school ring
to get away from the pom pom boys
and the jock strap girls
yeah, give me the super pill to make things better
yeah, the super pill to make everything alright
Welcome to the odyssey.
You've been driven by your faceless personality
And your image is your own faceless odyssey
Come on I'm very curious
but you just don't know your ass from a hole in the ground
so true its a violation
hide yourself from the same old memories
your image is your invitation
there's no time for sleep so mother fucker come on
from the 30th century so you'll feel like me
you traded in your high school ring
to get away from the pom pom boys
and the jock strap girls
yeah, give me the super pill to make things better
yeah, the super pill to make everything alright
And your image is your own faceless odyssey
Come on I'm very curious

It's about high school, that much should be obvious. The line "you traded in your high school ring, to get away from the pom pom boys and the jockstrap girls" is referring to how (in the 60s I believe) in high schools when a couple was "engaged" they would give each other "high school rings," or somesuch thing. Also, the girls would sometimes wear their boyfriend's jacket alot of the time, hence the pom pom boys/jockstrap girls. Any fool knows it's normally jockstrap boys/pom pom girls.
High school is a long, toilsome journey we embark on to find our way home, with all sorts of dangers and diversions along the way (super pill = either attention defecit medication, or just plain ol' recreational drugs). The journey of high school is being likened to the epic poem The Odyssey by the Greek poet Homer. This is probably Jay's description of how high school was for him. I bet he was pretty weird in high school! Probably felt like someone from another time and/or dimension (coming from the 30th century perhaps?).
I don't think it is so much about high school as it about the idea of image.
I think saying to someone, "Wake up!! This is high school it's life get used to it and be prepared for this odyssey cause it's a hell of a one!"
I guess talking about how high schools a ride and you cant just think it all gonna be peachy you have your social enemies, h/w, teachers and more.. It's an odyssey maybe talking about a new kid.. I guess jays's re-capping old high school memories..
