Stargazer Lyrics
Been thinking how to escape?
This strait-jacket of constraint
Been thinking what can be wrong?
With feelings that long to belong
Stargazing me
In an upside down sea
So weary this strait-jacket dreamer
So resigned to continue to suffer
But you've learnt that as you grow weaker
There's less hurt because there's much less to hurt
Stargazing me
In a tumbling sea
Up in the galaxy
Staring down on me
Stargazer reach out to touch
With your mind that frees you so much
Stargazer kissing your kismet
With bright jewel encrusted scars
Stargazing me
In tranquility
Up in the galaxy
Staring down on me
Stargazing me
In tranquility
Up in the galaxy
Staring down on me
This strait-jacket of constraint
Been thinking what can be wrong?
With feelings that long to belong
In an upside down sea
So resigned to continue to suffer
But you've learnt that as you grow weaker
There's less hurt because there's much less to hurt
In a tumbling sea
Up in the galaxy
Staring down on me
With your mind that frees you so much
Stargazer kissing your kismet
With bright jewel encrusted scars
In tranquility
Up in the galaxy
Staring down on me
In tranquility
Up in the galaxy
Staring down on me

This is probably my favourite SatB song. To me, it is about the longing to escape from one's emotional difficulty, while at the same time appreciating the obscure beauty of the situation, the tragic and unique loveliness of one's own suffering.
"So weary this strait-jacket dreamer So resigned to continue to suffer But you've learnt that as you grow weaker There's less hurt because there's much less to hurt"
Though the person is weary of suffering, she can still appreciate the security her suffering brings. So much is being taken from her, so there is little left for her to lose. There is safety in her depression, as it is familiar. She is afraid to be happy or "normal" because has never known either.
"Stargazer reach out to touch With your mind that frees you so much Stargazer kissing your kismet With bright jewel encrusted scars"
Though the person's mind is suffering, it is her only escape from reality, thus her "mind that frees" her so much. The mention of the scars reminds me, on a personal note, of self-injury. But in terms of the theme of the song, it goes well. Though the scars are reminders of her sadness and inability to escape, they are, in their own strange way, beautiful (jewel encrusted).
Awesome song. I think Stargazer is someone, and they are stargazing her. Meaning they are staring at her for a long period of time. As if she was the stars, and it makes her feel uncomfortable. I also thought she was saying stay down on me. Love this song.
This is without a doubt one of the best Siouxsie & The Banshees tune. I love everything about it: the thought-provoking lyrics, the music, everything.
