[Lead: Andy]
Time is
A thing we must accept
The unexpected
I sometimes fear
Just when
I feel there's no excuse
For what happens
Things fall into place
I know there is no way
To avoid
The pain that we
Must go through
To find the other half
That is true
Destiny
Is what we all seek
Destiny
Was waiting for you and me
[Lead: Chuck]
I believe behind confusion
Awaits the truth for us
Past the obstacles we face
I value our life and trust
Years of questioning
Why things happen the way
They do in life
Wishing
That I could turn back time
So we could join our souls
I know there is no way
To avoid
The pain that we
Must go through
To find the other half
That is true
Destiny
Is what we all seek
Destiny
Was waiting for you and me
[Lead: Chuck]
A thing we must accept
The unexpected
I sometimes fear
Just when
I feel there's no excuse
For what happens
Things fall into place
To avoid
The pain that we
Must go through
To find the other half
That is true
Is what we all seek
Destiny
Was waiting for you and me
Awaits the truth for us
Past the obstacles we face
I value our life and trust
Why things happen the way
They do in life
Wishing
That I could turn back time
So we could join our souls
To avoid
The pain that we
Must go through
To find the other half
That is true
Is what we all seek
Destiny
Was waiting for you and me

The way I interpret the song is that it's about a lover and something happened between the two that caused the two to break up (whether they broke up with him or vice versa). At the beginning of the song, he accepts that he can no longer be with this person, he is done with them. However, the middle to the end of the song he doesn't care for whatever happened and gives in to his feelings, wanting them back.
"Time is a thing we must accept The unexpected I sometimes fear Just when I feel there's no excuse For what happens, things fall into place."
To me, he's saying that time has to do with the split. Either they spent too much time without each other or overtime his lover lost interest. He goes on and says he's scared of what might (have) happen during that time. And then (this is my favorite line of the song) he says that he never found a reason why things happened the way they did, BUT, it all added up afterwards and it made sense to him why it happened (hence the title of the song.) He has accepted whatever happened between them.
"I know there is no way To avoid The pain that we must go through To find the other half that is true."
This one is a little confusing to me. It could either talk about during/before the break up, or it could also talk about people in general finding it hard to avoid the pain of finding the one who is true for them - their "true love." I could be interpreting this wrong.
"Destiny is what we all seek Destiny was waiting for you and me."
Again, the first line is talking about people in general. The second line could mean two things: 1. it could be a contradiction of the first several lines of the song where he accepted what happened. In the beginning of the song, he has accepted the separation. Here, he is saying that he believed "destiny" was going to keep them together, but sadly, it didn't happen. Or 2. He simply has accepted that destiny has broken them apart, but it wouldn't make sense in the progression of the song.
"I believe behind confusion Awaits the truth for us Past the obstacles we face I value our life and trust"
He says that he believes that the lover was confused about what happened to the relationship, and that they should seek into the truth "past the obstacles [they] face." At this point, he wants his lover still, and admits he values the history and trust they had together.
"Years of questioning Why things happen the way They do in life Wishing That I could turn back time So we could join our souls."
This is another contradiction of the beginning of the song. He sort of repeats himself here ("just when I feel there's no excuse for what happens...") except he denies the reasoning and acceptance ("things fall into place") and doesn't care for what happened. It seems like he now has no chance of winning his lover back and that he wishes he could go back in time to fix things and be with them once again.
Thank you for reading my interpretation of "Destiny", this is my first ever song interpretation and I hope to anyone who reads it gets another perspective of the lyrics!

You're really funny, you know that?
Wallamange is really bored with his life
I'd like to make a correction to my interpretation... in fact.. a correction to it entirely. I believe this song is about Chuck's older brother Frank who passed away when they were younger. It makes sense that it would be a tribute about him and how emotional the lyrics and guitar solo are.
"Time is a thing we must accept The unexpected I sometimes fear Just when I feel there's no excuse For what happens, things fall into place"
He is saying that, although the grief and mourn of death takes time to overcome, it is still burdening, but he must accept it. Since his brother's death (car accident), he fears the unexpected may come again. I am not too sure what to make of the next lines. I know he's saying what I previously said (basically, "it didn't make sense then but it does now"), so I THINK he's saying Frank died and the outcome changed his/his family's life in a certain way, maybe bringing the family closer like his mom said in an interview.
"I know there is no way To avoid The pain that we must go through To find the other half that is true"
He knows he and his family can't avoid the pain of loss. I believe he's referring to his brother as his other half.
"Destiny is what we all seek Destiny was waiting for you and me"
I believe that he's talking to Frank in this part.
"I believe behind confusion Awaits the truth for us Past the obstacles we face I value our life and trust"
I could be totally wrong about this because I don't know much about the actual event, but I think he's saying he's confused about his brother's death, as if he wanted to know what happened prior to the car accident to cause it, but at some point he will learn the truth. He values their brotherly connection and the trust they built with each other.
"Years of questioning Why things happen the way They do in life Wishing That I could turn back time So we could join our souls"
This part is pretty self explanatory in regard to his brother, but I believe he's saying that he always questioned why his brother had to pass away and that he wishes he could go back in time to be with him again, or to possibly prevent the tragedy.
Again, I do not know a lot about Frank or of his passing, so please forgive me if I have got some facts or opinions wrong or if I assumed too much. Some of the lyrics I did not know how to interpret. I hope I was respectful of the lives of Frank and Chuck, and I hope that this lyric interpretation does justice.

Isn't this song about his dead brother Frank?
To me, this song is about the arduous process of finding a soulmate. Most people don't find "the one" (or one of the few "ones") without going through many relationships, each of them with its own, painful ending.
"Time is a thing we must accept"
We need to accept that healing from past relationships and finding a new partner take time, even if we wanna rush these things sometimes, especially after the end of a relationship (for some people). Also, when looking at the bigger picture, finding a soulmate in itself takes a long time.
"The unexpected I sometimes fear. Just when I feel there's no excuse for what happens, Things fall into place"
The worst thing about healing, for some, is that we can't predict when this process will end, or how. Will we find someone else? Will the pain unexpectedly cease? Usually these events tend to happen when you least expect it. When you're in a fragile, impatient state, it's hard to accept this.
"I know there is no way to avoid the pain that we must go through to find the other half that is true"
As I was saying, the path to the right person is not a simple one. One might say there is no way to avoid that pain since, for most, it is instinctual to want to seek love.
"Destiny is what we all seek"
Chuck calls the end goal of this agonizing journey "Destiny". As I was saying before, this is something that "we all seek", a pain which brings us together as not only humans, but living beings (to some extent, I guess humans romanticize it a lot more).
"Destiny was waiting for you and me"
Does Chuck believe he found his soulmate? Is this who he is referring to with "you"?
"I believe behind confusion awaits the truth for us Past the obstacles we face I value our life and trust"
I think he has. "Behind" the "confusion" that is the process of finding a soulmate, there is hope. Chuck highly valued the relationship he was in at the time of writing this song. It took him out of the painful search and into an era of closure in his life.
"Years of questioning why things happen the way they do in life"
During this painful process, he probably wondered how he could be so unlucky...to be left alone to deal with all his pain. Perhaps he even questioned his luck...getting ideas about some sort of fate or "destiny"...despite being an atheist.
"Wishing that I could turn back time, So we could join our souls"
I believe here, Chuck wishes he could go back in time to meet this soulmate earlier and erase all the pain he needed to feel to get to where he is now. That way, he may even get to spend more time with that person...before death tears them apart (no pun intended).
"I know there is no way to avoid the pain that we must go through to find the other half that is true Destiny is what we all seek Destiny was waiting for you and me"
Overall, I think this is a beautiful song. One that is turning out to be surprisingly timeless for me. The way the bass really 'makes' the chorus riff is really cool and I can feel the pain Chuck sings about in his guitar playing and his vocals. Not to mention the beautiful acoustic intro...perhaps representing what love feels like for him now...or felt like before, contrasted with the emotion felt throughout the rest of the song.
Of course, as it says in the title, this is only my interpretation...and it is far from perfect. I really hope someone comes across this and finds it at least interesting. Thanks for reading :)
A bunch of pirates are plundering a seaside town called Brighton where they discover a beached Whale called Jim. Jim is in great pain and is therefore an easy target. One particularly articulate pirate called Ichabod charges at it's oral implementation. Jim opens his mouth and Ichabod falls into it. Deciding not to cry over spilt milk, Ichabod accepts his fate inside the Whales belly. He sits and muses over the predicament for 43 year until he decides he has had enough. He walks through the pro-lapsed rectum of the Whale and joins his aged companions on Brighton beach. He attempts to get back on the ship he arrived on but as he is ascending the gangplank an exploding mongoose gets in his way and the explosion kills him. Bit of a shame really.
