Tonight And The Rest Of My Life Lyrics

Down to the earth I fell
With dripping wings,
Heavy things won't fly
And the sky might catch on fire
And burn the axis of the world
That's why
I prefer a sunless sky
To the glittering and stinging in my eye
Feel so light
This is all I wanna feel tonight
Feel so light
Tonight and the rest of my life
Gleaming in the darksea
I'm as light as air
Floating there breathlessly
When the dream dissolves I open up my eyes
I realize that
Everything is shoreless sea
Weightlessness is passing over me
Feel so light
This is all I wanna feel tonight
Feel so light
Tonight and the rest of my life
Everthing is waves and stars
The universe is resting in my arms
I feel so alive
This is all I wanna feel tonight
I feel so light
Tonight and the rest of my life

Excellent song...and open to lots of interpretation. The myth of Icarus is hard to ignore here; the god who tried to escape imprisonment, but whose wings were made of wax that melted when he flew to close to the sun. Wingless, he fell into the sea. Could it be that Nina is singing about the pleasantness/relief of death? She feels so light (heaven-bound) and unburdened (by life).

As I was writing my other interpretation this one came to mind. It reminded me of my experience with being bipolar. I'm type 2, but even so, the ecstasy that come with the high blinds you to the dangers around you and the path of destruction you leave behind. But then the devastating lows. And then the meds which prevent you from being in the light. And you are tempted to stop taking it because you might not be able to get the high, but darn it your whole body remembers it. But you are now aware of the damage you've caused and now level headed, decide that you could end up destroying everything just to feel it again. But after a long while, the meds start working, and you can see the change yourself. Everything is so different when medicated. There's no light to blind you and so you can appreciate and understand things now because you can actually see. It's like you are seeing the world for the first time. Little by little you adjust to this new world which you accept it for what it is. And you find a sense of belonging which makes you feel connected to others.

this song is really good

WHAT SHE WAS FEELING IS CAPTURED in the words. It reminds me of spirituality, Dark Night Of The Soul type concepts. IMO this is a song that both lyrically and with her beautiful nuanced timing of vocal melody ("glittering and stinging in my eye"), encapsulates spiritual release through letting go, and the calming and stability into the future it brings. For me, the two sides of the coin are the side of ego, represented by being like Icarus, who believed he could succeed in his desires but flew too high, and the ego-releasing person who learns to "prefer the...

I dig this song...

Nina Gordon has a beautiful voice. The lyrics aren't anything particularly cohesive or brilliant, but they're nice enough. It does capture the feeling of feeling alive and aware of everything - every now and that I feel that, and it is incredible.

This song reminds me of driving to school in my car in the fall of 2001...

I think this song is great, and the lyrics are simple, but they have a pretty powerful message. She probably experienced some past pain, and all she wants is to feel light and weightless, so that she wont have to hurt anymore.

This song describes what my life was like before I met my (now ex) boyfriend. I had always felt like I had wings once and that they melted. I had always liked dark days, too. The chorus refers to the night I got my first kiss from my boyfriend.

A friend randomly gave me the CD to listen to and this song sticks out from it. I wish 2003 cross faded into this song in some way though. Oh well. Awesome song, coming from someone who listens to Industrial.
