Together Alone Lyrics
Together alone
Above and beneath
We were as close
As anyone can be
Now you are gone
Far away from me
As is once
Will always be
Together alone
Anei ra maua (here we are together)
E piri tahi nei (in a very close embrace)
E noha tahi nei (being together)
Ko maua anake (just us alone)
Kei runga a Rangi (Rangi the sky father is above)
Ko papa Kei raroi (the earth mother is below)
E noha tahi nei (our love for one another)
Ko maua anake (is everlasting)together alone
Shallow and deep
Holding our breath
Paying death no heed
I'm still your friend
When you are in need
As is once
Will always be
Earth and sky
Moon and sea
Above and beneath
We were as close
As anyone can be
Now you are gone
Far away from me
As is once
Will always be
Together alone
E piri tahi nei (in a very close embrace)
E noha tahi nei (being together)
Ko maua anake (just us alone)
Kei runga a Rangi (Rangi the sky father is above)
Ko papa Kei raroi (the earth mother is below)
E noha tahi nei (our love for one another)
Ko maua anake (is everlasting)together alone
Shallow and deep
Holding our breath
Paying death no heed
I'm still your friend
When you are in need
As is once
Will always be
Earth and sky
Moon and sea

This song is also to be played at my funeral (not that I am dying, but just in case...). To me the song means on the one hand that when someone dies you are left behind (alone), but in our memories, dreams and/or offspring we wil always be together. On the other hand it means to me that we are born alone, die alone and the time inbetween is spent together with the ones we love. Havo no idea if the authors meant this, but it's what it means to me. And if my friends and family don't like them logdrummers at a funeral... well though! It's my party and I cry if I want to! And every time I hear this song I do!
@wouterweetraad My sister did have this at her funeral. None of the family had ever heard it...but she wrote down that she wanted it played at her funeral.

So, pretty hard to listen to without crying.

Beautiful. Makes me cry. A lot. Love the use of vocals here. It really makes oyur spine tingle. There's something very tragically reassuring about this song. Anyone got any ideas as to where it comes from? Only recently (as in last summer) started listening to crowded house and love their music. Together Alone ia an amazing album.
"Tragically reassuring" is a good phrase. I want this song played at my funeral. To me it's about love spanning all of time, and how true love never dies. I don't know what it means to Neil Finn, but it says everything about my love for my Mum... and now she is dying of cancer. "E noha tahi nei, ko maua anake"
