Cigarettes Will Kill You Lyrics
You cook me in a can
You stretch me with your hands
You serve me up with cake
And that's you're big mistake
You offer a la carte
You didn't have the heart
And I'm getting off this boiling plate
To feed your dream
And then be gone
I wish I could say that everyone was wrong
You left me ripped and teared
And older than my years
That you would leave me hurt
You had to try dessert
Don't bother milk or cream
No way to let off steam
And I'm getting off this boiling plate
To feed your dream
And then be gone
I wish I could say that everyone was wrong
While I make you so proud of me
It must feel good that I'm now gone
I wish I could say that everyone was wrong
I wish everyone was wrong
I wish everyone was wrong
I wish everyone was wrong
I wish everyone was wrong

This song is titled Cigarettes Will Kill You BECAUSE cigarettes are bad for you but people continue to smoke them anyway regardless of health related issues. Same thing with this song - even though the relationship is terrible they stay with it anyway.

probably one of my favorite songs ever....ben lee's voice makes me swoon :) his songs are awesome, tho this is my personal favorite about how a girl uses/used him and he was really in love with her...everyone told him that she was no good, but he refused to listen

I think it's basically about being used/mistreated in a relationship (fry me in a pan, love to watch me bake, etc), and really wishing it would be perfect like TV instead. I'm just wondering though, what's the significance of the title? Anyone have any ideas?

this is my fave ever Ben Lee song... i wish more people would listen to him more. he's so talented.

My favourite song by Benny Lee.
I can play the piano part.
:]

I read through what you guys think this song is about... I always thought it was about something COMPLETELY different! :S
I thought it was about a kid who was really talented and his parents were trying to push him into a famous career so they could become famous themselves. (A bit like Lleyton Hewitt's parents lol!) "It must feel good to stand above me, while I make you so proud of me." And the bit that's like "they swore you'd steal my steam to feed your dream and then be gone."
When it's saying "Your guest comes in dressed smart, you offer a la carte, you didn't have the heart." I always thought it meant like his parents were showing him off to everyone, saying "Look how good we are, we have a talented child."
And then the kid was so stressed out because his parents were putting so much pressure on him and they didn't really care what he wanted that he took up smoking and they didn't know, and he died of lung cancer. Hence, Cigarettes Will Kill You.
Everyone else seems to think it's about a bad relationship :S Maybe I'm wrong, I dunno. I like my interpretation more though. :] lol.
interesting take, i guess it can be either

I really do enjoy this song. I wish more people would know of him or at least listen to Ben Lee more.

my fav BL song

i love this song and running with scissors. i guess its about wishing for a perfect relationship, but instead getting treated the oppisite, the worse thing is everyone said not to stay in the relationship, but he did and he was heartbroken... sad

People consistently do things to one's self that is bad for you regardless.
