Don't know what you've really got
It's hard to stay and not pretend
You can't make sense in what you thought
It seems I can't comprehend
I'm happy to be, only all that you see
And I'm not one to learn to be the same

I don't want to hear you bitch no more
I was better off a year before
No matter how I try I can't ignore
Every time I think my brain gets sore
When I'm with you

What's so hard about goodbyes?
I'm sorry, I'm just not as keen
On planning out our perfect lives
When I'm only nineteen
I'm happy to be only all that you see
And I'm not one to learn to be the same

I don't want to try and just be friends
Nothing's change my mind again
If ever there were thoughts I had, they're dead
I can't even think inside my head
When I'm with you

I'm on my way, can't you see that's the truth?
So long, can't stay, won't you see that's the truth?
I'm on my way, can't you see that's the truth?
So long, can't stay, won't you see that's
See that's the, see that's the

Last that I could take
Because it's getting really hard to fake
It's not like it's my problem that you're late
But can't you just spare the lies I hate?
When I'm with you

Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.

Spirit Within
Bertoldi Brothers
Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

Ministry
Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
