Driven Under Lyrics
Do you think I’m faking
when I’m lying next to you?
Do you think that I am blind
nothing left for me to lose?
Must be something on your mind
something lost and left behind
Do you know I’m faking now?
Do you know I’m faking
when I’m lying next to you?
Do you know that I am blind to everything you ever do? Must be something on your mind
something lost for me to find
Do you know I’m faking?
Then she told me she had a gun
it sounded like she’d used it once before on him
Then she told me she had a gun
it sounded like she’d used it once before, oh man
I guess you know I’m faking
when I tell you I love you
I guess you know that I am blind
to everything you say and do
Must be something on my mind
there’s nothing left for me to hide
Do you know I’m faking?
Then she told me she had a gun
it sounded like she’d used it once before on him
Then she told me she had a gun
it sounded like she’d used it once before, oh man
We have to succumb to the feelings we can never face
I need you. I breathe you.
I can’t go through this all again.
We have to succumb to
the feelings we can never face I need you
I breathe you. I can’t go through this…
Then she told me she had a gun
it sounded like she’d used it once before
Then she told me she had a gun
it sounded like she’d used it once before on him
Then she told me she had a gun

she says she wants to use it on me now…

i half way agree with SerjCobain except there are a few lines that dont make sense with his idea. but most of it does make sense. my first thought was that it was about a guy and a girl that was together and her past bf had left her(must be something on your mind, something lost and left behind) and she didnt want him to leave so she shot him(she told me she had a gun and it sounded like she used it once before on him) and know she is so paranoid that it will happen again so she thinks that her current bf is going to leave her(do you think im faking when im lying next to you) and when she confronts him about it he thinks she is crazy(which she is) and he cant deal with it anymore so he doesnt love her anymore but he doesnt want to break up with her cuz she will kill him too. but he tells her that they cant be together(we have to succumb to the feelings we can never face) so she says she will kill him(she says she wants to use it on me now). i could be wrong but thats what i think. either way its an awesome song.

Cobain is way off. And the reason is because I was reading an interview that Shaun did with Kissrocks FM out of San Antonio Texas and he said, "It's about how a relationship can get so out of control and crazy. Like the relationship my Mom and Dad had. They were crazy. The relationship was crazy. And, it's just about any relationship can get to that point. So out of control..." So, the song is about his parents, and metophorically, for any relationship that is like the one they had. Not trying to sound like a know it all... That's the last thing I wanna do...That isn't a good way to make friends... So, sorry if I do... Catch you all later... MaggieMichelle
This song is about domestic violence, when the male is the victim of female abuse. It is very real. Female narcissists exist just like male narcissists do. The first two paragraphs of the song emphasize this much. The video, he's walking back to an explosion. Aka an outburst in the relationship that he feels only he can fix. It's wrong, but victims succumb to this behavior. They want to right the wrong to smooth things over. He passes men who look at him. The closer he gets to the explosion, the older the men get and things start coming back together, blast subsiding. He passes a woman, who continues to watch him after he's passed by her. She knows. But, she's walking away from that explosive situation. He reaches the car. The flame goes out. Things are smoothed over for now. Much of this album is about domestic violence, narcissism. Most of you will doubt me. But, those of you have been through it, know what I'm saying.
@R404acat Accurate analysis. I don't know why your comment never get upvoted.

I love this song, It's absolutely brilliant! I thought it might be about someone who doesn't love their partner and at the start they are sort of acting like they are being accused of not loving them (Do you think I’m faking when I’m lying next to you?) and are trying to make the other person think that they are paranoid and that they are going crazy.(Must be something on your mind, something lost and left behind) but at the end of the opening verse they say "Do you know I’m faking now?" so maybe he is starting to admit to himself.
Then in the second verse he says "Do you know I'm faking?" so he is asking a question, he's admitted to himself and now he's wondering if this person knows he doesn't love them. Then instead of "Something lost and left behind" It says "Something lost for me to find" which may show that everything they had together is empty and he feels incomplete and doesn't want to be the woman anymore.
Then , when it says "Then she told me she had a gun, sounded like she used it once before" it could be an early indication or warning in the song so the listener knows that there is something wrong. This verse also suggests that she may have used it once before, but he doesn't know.
Then in the fourth verse he says "I guess you know im faking....there’s nothing left for me to hide" which may show that she has found out and that he is worried, but kind of in a way he wanted her to know, although at the end of the verse he is still questioning whether she knows.
But then, in another verse it says "We have to succumb to the feelings we can never face" which may show that you have to be honest and you can't hide how you feel. "I need you, I breathe you" Maybe this shows that he still has feelings for her, but he wants to stop loving her. This could be a twist in the song, showing that all this time he has been trying to convince himself that he has no feelings for her, but inside he does. This verse is like a turning point in the song and may may be a solution to the clues in the beginning. "I can't go through this all again" he could have had this problem with the woman before and maybe it brakes his heart and he wants to forget about it.
Then at the end it says "Then she told me she had a gun she says she wants to use it on me now…" This may show that she has had enough and cannot take the confusion anymore.
Overall I think this song shows mixed and contrasting emotions and maybe the fear of uncertainty and what is going happen next.
My interpretation may be completely wrong, but that is what I feel the song may be about.
In MY opinion I take this song as a guy and a girl in love, then the girl lets the guy know that she's really hurted her last boyfriend (emotionally like she cheated on him or sumthin):
Then she told me she had a gun it sounded like she'd used it once before on him
Idk i take it as that we all have different opinions and this is mine

I am a bit confused about all of the lyrics as well. But my take is this:
I think the girl is hung up on an old relationship and an old hurt. She is not trusting of her own feelings. I feel that in the lyrics, the guy may be somewhat antagonistic and "matter of fact like" with an implication that "SHE KNOWS HE IS FAKING", alluding to his belief that no matter what he does, she won't believe he is for real in...

"Do you think that I am blind, to everything you say and do" may, and I am using a similar experience, that the girl is inflective, and walls off, and can never be happy with what he gives her, because she can never trust herself or anything he tries to show her as real. Maybe she is fearful of being hurt again, so she projects!
The whole gun thing, that is what makes me wonder... If it is about his mother then fine, but I am sure that the song has many interpretations.
I think the succumbing bridge may refer to possibly either trusting, believing in what is in front of her, or getting out altogether. Somewhat of an ultimatum. Maybe the gun is the "triggering" of ending the relationship.
Either way, it is a very powerful song. This and Broken are my 2 faves as far as emotional meanings are concerned for Seether! Opinions, I'd really like some feedback!
Considering this song came out the same year of Shaun's divorce, I'd say this song is about somebody, but his name doesn't start with a K but an S.
I have loved this song for however many years it's been out. and finally at 39F, I have my own interpretation. I was in a situationship from age 24-31 on and off. I finally accepted what it was, it kept coming back around. I wasn't gonna end it. the universe found a way to end it for me (technically I did). I also agree up smoking which I didn't think would ever happen... used to tell myself, when that happens I will be the ultimate human being. I got over him. There was sadness and fear and adjustment, but I did it. I USED THE GUN ON HIM. for 7 months I was completely sober, even gave up coffee. I was single. happy. like, truly. I would go to the beach multiple times a week and literally feel HIGH on life! after about 7 months, someone I thought was outta my league (and therefore impressive to me) bc I was just so attracted to him, actually entertained the idea of me. I just went along for the ride. however, I fell off. started smoking again. in the past 8 years I've added so much debt. still smoking. still not over this dude that I feel has added a layer of muck to me . I felt I could see thru his lies but I couldn't walk away. his energy is always there ( is he a part of me?). WE HAVE TO SUCCUMB TO THE FEELINGS WE CAN NEVER FACE. I know to get sober again would likely get me back to my natural high. yet there is a layer of MUCK I can feel (his issues? mine?) that have to be FELT, succumbed to, in the process. I haven't used the gun on him yet. I WANT TO.
@SilverDoe26 also to add, succumb to the feelings we can never face..... feels impossible and I interpret the music video , him walking TOWARD the fire , which seems totally illogical and unsafe, as this action of facing these things that we avoid facing. once he gets to the car (faces it) , the fire dies down, he gets in the car and can relax Into it.

Great song. I absolutely love the chorus. Made a promise to myself to go out and buy thier CD soon...you should do the same.
Seether did an unplugged concert in my city(my friend won tickets) and he said this song was about his mom.
Altough the band may think Kurt was shot there still is no evidence that he shot himself.
