She came out west
To find the sun
She lost her name
But found a new one
Amy goes to school all day
But at night in the neighborhood
They call her
Amphetamine

She is perfect in that fucked up way
That all the magazines
Seem to want to glorify these days

She looks like a teenage anthem
She looks like she used to be happy with
The girl inside

She looks so bored sometimes
She has that super pale skin
And those soft green eyes
She looks like she
Could have been happy
In a better life

She came out west
Just to break away clean
From her family and her friends
And a little girl's dream
All she wants to do every night
Is to sit beside my window
And listen to the sirens

She is perfect in that fucked up way
That all the magazines
Seem to want to glorify these days

She looks like a teenage anthem
She looks like she should have been happy
In another life

In another life

She came out west
Just to break the spell
After three long years'
In a marriage from hell
Six months clean
Living sober and right
The doctors tell her
Everything will be alright

Yeah you just take your pill
And everything will be alright

She looks like a teenage anthem
She looks like a magazine girl
She looks like a teenage anthem
Like she used to be happy
In another world

She looks like a teenage anthem
She is happy with the girl inside
She looks like a teenage anthem
And looks like she could have been
Happy in another life

In another life
Happy in another life

Met her at a party
And I took her home
She is the saddest girl
That I have ever known
She wakes me up
In the middle of the night
Just to tell me
Everything will be alright
Amy smiles at me and tells me
Everything will be alright

I tell myself the same damn thing

Everyday

Everything will be alright

Story of the singer using, and about his uses of, amphetamine (amy, speed), metaphoricly told through the story of a girl who is named amy and uses speed. Important things to know if you've never used amphetamine. Amphetamine is a stimulant, and a euphoric stimulant at that. You're not drunk, you're not stoned, there is no intoxication, no impairment. You're on top of the world. Able to function better than sober in every way, and feel happier than you've felt in a long time. You feel like how you think you should always feel. What sober should be. And that is why amphetamine is so fucked up (as stated in the song). My drug of choice, it is by far the most euphoric drug I've ever done. Have fun, be safe, don't let any drug control you. Don't shoot it up or smoke it either, way too addictive, and stay away from meth.

"Amy goes to school all day" -Amphetamine is given to kids with ADD or ADHD so they can do better in school "But at night in the neighborhood they call her Amphetamine" -But people like to use the drug for recreational purposes

"She is perfect in that fucked up way" -If you've ever done amphetamine you'd understand how its the perfect drug, but its still fucked up how a chemical makes you happy.

"All she wants to do every night Is to sit beside my window and listen to the sirens" -Amphetamine gives you the most amazing intrest in some of the most trivial things

"After three long years in a marriage from hell" -3 years addicted to amphetamine "Six months clean living sober and right Her doctors tell her everything will be alright" -Been sober for six months, but obviously still longs for speed

"Yeah, you just take your pill And everything will be alright" -Legal speed is sold in a pill, adderal, take one and you will feel allright.

"Like she used to be happy in another world/life" -Amphetamine is usually the drug of depressed or unhappy people who use it for the euphoric feelings.

"Met her at a party and I took her home" -Singer used at a party and now uses more often "She is the saddest girl that I have ever known" -Amphetamine is a sad drug, normally happy people don't usually use it "Yeah she wakes up in the middle of the night" -Insomnia is the worst side effect of amphetamine, you seriously can go days without sleep. "Just to tell me everything will be alright" -When you're high everything is alright

"Amy smiles at me, tells me everything will be alright" -Amphetamine makes you happy, no matter how sad you really are. "Yeah I tell myself the same damn thing Everyday Everything will be alright" -Shows singer has a problem with depression and uses amphetamine as a way out of his problems. Bad idea thats why people get addicted.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
