White Men In Black Suits Lyrics
I am just a boy working in a record store
Yes I moved to San Francisco just to see what I could be
I am a loser geek, crazy with an evil streak
Yes I do believe there is a violent thing inside of me
She is just a girl, she is doing what she can
She dances topless when she's not playing in her band
Such a pretty girl, happy in an ugly place
Watching all the pretty people doin' lots of ugly things
I think it's getting better for the two of us
Yes I think it's getting better almost every day
I could give a damn for what those people say
All I want to do is lose myself in your room
All you want is just a slow fuck in the afternoon
I still see those scary guys when I am all alone at night
I kiss the ring you gave me then I swing with all my might
I think it's getting better for the two of us
I think it's getting easier for you and me to agree
That the white men in black suits, they are diminishing
Yes I think they are diminishing
Yes I think that they diminish you, and they diminish me
I think they are diminishing
You know sometimes I hear those people say
Yeah she takes the bus over to the north side of the city
She goes to work stripping for the rich white men
All the words they give her make her feel so soft and pretty
She wears them but they never ever seem to fit
Yes I think it's getting better for the two of us
Yes I think it's getting better in the worst way
I refuse to be afraid of almost anyone
Afraid of all the things they do, all the words that they say
Let's live the way we want to live and hope they go away
I really hope they go away
I really hope they find a nice place, I hope they find it somewhere
I hope they go away
And I can still hear all those people say
I can still hear all those people say
I can hear those people say

I air on the side of metaphor for most of this.
It seems to be more about distance, and the objectification of women. Girls frequently "strip" for men, by dealing with constantly being hit on, and all the advances made by people.
He's just jealous, as most men get. She works away from him, and guys hit on her constantly, and the fact that he isn't around makes him angry, as he can't go around putting men in their place.
It's mental strife.
My opinion may be biased as I'm in a long distance relationship currently because of circumstances, but that's my spin on it, and I've had the opinion for a while.
I thought that this song stood out the most from the rest of the songs on the album (So Much For the Afterglow) and it has to be one of my favorites. It is about a couple coping with depression and just trying to make the best of the situation they're in.
I absolutely love this song. It's just beyond amazing. It's so uplifting, just talking about two ordinary people and how their love for each other allows them to rise above the people that mistreat them.
This is my favorite song on this cd, favorite by them, and this is coming from someone who has quite the Everclear collection, makes me cry, I sing it to girls a lot, I absolutely love it, DEFINITELY UNDERRATED.
I love this song so much... it's my absolute favorite song on afterglow. when I listen to it, it puts me in a different state of mind... like a bittersweet, almost content feeling? I can't really describe it other than to say that this song is amazing.
definately one of their best
This is really a great song. It's so powerful and I just love how it shows the strength of their relationship through the hard times. well, I'm just repeating what everyone else has said, but wow, this is an amazing song.
idk why, but this puts me in a giggly mood, like its a nice upbeat song . i guess i like to listen to it.
I LOVE THIS SONG, it chills me out so much. fav song by everclear <3 it!

White men in black suits symbolize the oppression of materialistic society.
What I don't understand is the line: "I think it's getting better in the worst way"

@Relinquo1
@Relinquo1 Getting better in the worst way means they are conforming to society's norms. It's better bc with acceptance comes peace, but it's in the worst way bc they have to trade in their punk rock tees for Eddie Bauer loafers.
