Taken out of context of Tommy, this song is absolutely hilarious, in a disgusting, perverted kind of way. It doesn't really make sense unless you listen to it as part of Tommy. Then you'll understand what's going on.
But still... kind of funny, in a twisted way.
My mistake, please pardon me! I *had* known who wrote "Fiddle About" well before you were out of diapers, but I must've forgotten this when Townshend said (in a rather pitiful defense in 2003): "I believe I was sexually abused between the age of five and six and a half when in the care of my maternal grandmother, who was mentally ill at the time. I cannot remember clearly what happened, but my creative work tends to throw up nasty shadows, particularly in Tommy."
Lighten up, dude!
"Another commission from Pete, John wrote this in his head while trying to find his room in the circular Pontchatrain hotel in Detroit on July 13, 1968. In an early song list, this was followed by a song called "Dream (Erotic)." - thewho.net
Good, simple lyrics by John. Ernie abuses Tommy. The character was created by Pete and was named "Uncle" because when his mother had male "friends" over, little Pete was ordered to call them Uncles. While being sung John does it the best due to his deep voice (Billy Idol sucked, all he did was say Fuck after every line). Long Live John Entwistle!
Autobiographical? Did John have any cases of child abuse or something, because I never heard about it. If you're thinking of Pete, you're wrong, this number's by John, and you're not a true Who fan.
