Driving Nowhere Lyrics

Confront the daily setbacks
All the lows and highs
With anesthetic means I'm
Fit to socialize

Driving nowhere fast
Accelerate to pass
Now I've got time to kill at last

Bombing hometowns I can
Watch it free from harm
United Arab Emirates
Still keep the gas in my car

Driving nowhere fast
Accelerate to pass
Now I've got time to kill at last

Keep the gas in my car
Let me go far
I'm driving nowhere fast
Accelerate to pass
Now I've got time to kill at last

Yes I see the connection between Americans who never question that they'll have gas for their cars, and the wars and brutality that make our automobile society possible.

I also just love that Page managed to fit United Arab Emirates in as a lyric, he's gotta get some kinda points for that one!

realy nice song got a very psychedelic and progressiv guitar solo till the outro :D takes you away from everything in your reality when your kinda high.

"Confront the daily setbacks All the lows and highs With anesthetic means I'm Fit to socialize" those first lines perhaps tell us, the guy took some drugs to escape from his problematic life. he driving stoned to nowhere just away from it. the drug helps him to keep some social contacts alive too. reminds me of the scene in the intro of the methamphetamin movie "spun" where the mainperson took some nice lines then driving home, hearing an iron maiden cover :D

"Bombing hometowns I can Watch it free from harm United Arab Emirates Still keep the gas in my car" the person sees the daily tv and the brutality in other countrys but never saw something like that in his life. he's driving with the gas thats helping to keep the war in other countries alive. dudes keep hearing stoner rock ('_')y

@psychedelic soul I don't agree with your interpretation at the start ... I think he is simply talking about the "drudgery" of real life (not drugs).

I feel this song is about ignorance. Self admitingly ignorance. Bliss that is associated with that state of mind. Confront the daily set backs all the lows and highs. Choosing to only see his daily set backs, easily dismissing what is seen on television. Yet observed, still continues onward to fill some sort of void. and then using the escape. That state of mind allows one to be accepting of the surroundings. Not caring. The gas fills up the void. It’s satisfactory. It’s an addiction that has been longed for. There is time to finally kill now apparently yet dismissing the destruction his escape is causing.
