Midnight In Chelsea Lyrics
The kids round here look just like sticks
They trade old licks with a beat up six
I just smile and catch the groove
Gothic girls all dressed in black
Serious as heart attacks
Takes a bit of getting used to
The old man with the whisky stains
Lost the night, forgot his name
His poor wife will sleep alone again
And it aint hard to understand
Why she’s holding onto her own hand
It’s midnight in Chelsea, midnight in Chelsea
No ones asking me for favours
No ones looking for a saviour
They’re too busy ... saving me
I’ve seen a lone sloane ranger drive
Seems her chauffeur took a dive
And sold her secrets to the Sun
And later in a magazine, I finally figured what it means
To be a saint, not a queen
Two lustful lovers catch a spark, chase their shadows in the dark
Someone’s getting off tonight
A big red bus that’s packed so tight, disappears in a trail of light
Somewhere someone’s dreaming baby it’s alright....
It’s midnight in Chelsea, midnight in Chelsea
No ones asking me for favours
No ones looking for a saviour
They’re too busy saving me
Midnight in Chelsea
No one’s pinned their dreams on me
No one’s asking me to bleed
I’m the man I want to be
When Chelsea girls sing
Sha la la la, sha la la la
Sha la la la, sha la la oh ...
Sha la la la, sha la la la
Sha la la la, sha la la oh ... oh ...
It’s morning when I go to sleep
In the distant dawn a church bell rings
Another day is coming on
A baby’s born, an old man dies
Somewhere young lovers kiss goodbye
I leave my soul and just move on
And wish that I was there to sing this song
It’s midnight in Chelsea, oh, midnight in Chelsea
No ones asking me for favours
No ones looking for a saviour
They’re too busy saving me
It’s midnight in Chelsea
No one’s pinned their dreams on me
No one’s asking me to bleed
I’m the man I want to be
The man I want to be, the man I want to be

Sitting on a bench, watching all the people a city has in it, even at midnight... running in romantic sandals tward the cathedral under a full moon in a Black Watch plaid cloak.
That's what I always envision, anyway.
this song didn't do as well in america as england, because ppl didnt understand it. if u walk around london, obviously in this case, he was in chelsea, you see a lot of things he talks about here. i dont really think theres any hidden meaning to this!
I can understand what you mean torrance but the Chelsea Jon Bon Jovi is singing about is a hotel. Check out the short film and it will make sense.
The song actually is about Chelsea, London. It may have been filmed in NY, but it's to do with him moving his family to London when making a film.

rbrb, ur wrong. it is about chelsea in london. and if u listen to the song u will get it. jon has said this himself on more than one occasion. he was living there while filming the leading man, and they bon jovi family considered moving to london on a permanent basis, but missed their family too much.
Great song. kinda reminds me of streets of philly by bruc springsteen
Love this song, but I definitely think there's a deeper meaning behind it. I think it's about Jon being a celebrity and everyone's always rushing up to him for autographs, or to try and get an "in" to the music business and whatnot. But in Chelsea, Jon's walking around like a normal person and just taking things in. No one's "asking him to bleed". But what does "I seen a lonesome rainy drive Seems the chauffer took a dive sold his secrets to the sun Ahh, later in a magazine I finally figured what it means to be a saint but not a queen" mean?
I really like this song.. i thought Chelsea was a place in the U.S. guess i was wrong..
This is a great song about the affluent part of London called Chelsea and about Diana Princess of Wales (DPOW). Prior to her wedding with Princes Charles, DPOW lived in a flat in affluent Earl's Court area which is next to Chelsea.
Gothic girls all dress in black" refers to Gothic sub-culture which originated in England in early 80s.
Bon Jovi spent a very memorable and successful tour at Wembley stadium of London in June 1995. Their performance in Wembley arena is still arguably their best one. It seems that Jon Bon Jovi probably went out on one night on the streets of Chelsea and recorded his observations in this song.
Princess Diana died on 31 August 1997 and Bon Jovi released Destination Anywhere album on 17 June 1997, a couple of months before her death. At the time Jon wrote this song, Diana was world renowned for her status as "queen of hearts" and her captivating beauty.
"I've seen a lone, sloane ranger drive" Sloane ranger is a specific term for elite ladies in London. Archetypal of these ladies was Princess Diana.
"Seems her chauffeur took a dive And sold her secrets to the sun" In August 1992, transcripts of conversation between DPOW and car salesman James Gilbey were published in British tabloid newspaper "The Sun". These tapes were named as "Squidgygate" drawing parallels with Watergate scandal.
"And later in a magazine I finally figured what it means To be a saint, not a queen"
This refers to the fact that after her separation from Princes Charles, Diana had declared that she did not want to be the queen of England and wanted to be the queen of hearts. The press went head over heels with Diana and followed her every humanitarian activity for which she truly became the queen of hearts.
"The old man with the whiskey stains Lost the night forgot his name His poor wife will sleep alone again And it ain't hard to understand Why she's holding on to her own hand" "Two lustful lovers catch a spark And chase their shadows in the dark" "Someone's getting off tonight Of a big red bus that's packed so tight It disappears in a trail of light"
Think of this as Jon walking in the streets of Chelsea and writing down his observations. He sees a homeless old man with whiskey stains. Homeless people are unfortunately quite commonly seen on the streets of London. Later on he sees a couple flirting with each other, and someone getting off the characteristic "big red bus of London".
