A Case of You (Joni Mitchell cover) Lyrics
Just before our love got lost you said,
"I am as constant as the northern star."
and I said, "Constantly in the darkness
where's that at?
If you want me I'll be in the bar."
On the back of a cotton coaster
in the blue T.V. screen light
I drew a map of Canada
Oh Canada
with your face sketched on it twice.
In my blood like holy wine
you taste so bitter and so sweet
well, I could drink a case of you, darling
and I would still be on my feet
I would still be on my feet.
Oh I am a lonely painter
I live in a box of paints
I'm frightened by the devil
And I'm drawn to those ones that ain't afraid.
I remember that time you told me
"Love is touching souls"
Surely you touched mine
'Cause part of you pours out of me
In these lines from time to time.
My blood
my holy wine
tastes so bitter and so sweet
Well I could drink a case of you, darling
and I would still be on my feet
I would still be on my feet
I met a woman
She had a mouth like yours
She knew your devils and your deeds
and she said, "Go to him, stay with him
but be prepared to bleed"
My blood
my holy wine
tastes so bitter and so sweet
Well I could drink a case of you, darling
and I would still be on my feet
I would still be on my feet
"I am as constant as the northern star."
and I said, "Constantly in the darkness
where's that at?
If you want me I'll be in the bar."
On the back of a cotton coaster

A great cover of the Jon Mitchell song. I could drink a case of Tori but I won't still be on my feet since she knocks me off my feet!
Joni Mitchell I mean.
^^ This is a good song, I like it a lot. She does excellent covers.
Joni Mitchell is truely the most amazing and most inspirational songwriter ever. I haven't heard the tori version of this song - how can I get hold of it?
(Considering I'm locked in a windowless attic room)
Does any know how I could find the piano music for Tori's version of this amazing Joni Classic? It's so haunting I'd love to sing it in a concert....
such a gd cover, she does them so well
tori version is fabulous, even though the Kd. Lang cover is also amazing. i heard the tori one second and didn't like it at first, but tori is awesome and joni mitchell is a truely wonderful songwriter! i love this song!
i recognize your style a mile away, great lyrics.
heres some things tori has said about the song from www.hereinmyhead.com
"I could name five songs, right off the top of my head, that I would have given my right arm to write. Case Of you: You don’t get it any better. A better song hasn’t been written. I don’t care what female singer/songwriter you throw up in my face: None has done anything in the league of Case of You, me included. I sing Case of You almost every night in concert because of that. For a woman to be able to say what that says, with that kind of addiction and yet that kind of grace, is just not done. Even Zeppelin and those guys listened to Joni. They were totally influenced by Joni. -- Tori; Keyboard, Nov 1994
"Any time I would ever slip, I would put on Case Of You, and there is not a song that could move me about the way a woman loves a man the way that song does. I wish I had written that song. I’m living that song, I should have been able to have written it." -- Tori; Prodigy Q&A, Sep 1994
I totally agree with what she said - the song is amazing and her version is so much more seductive. if lady lazarus or anyone else wants the tori version it i can email it to you.
This song could not be covered better.. It's perfect for her personality and her way of loving/hating and sacrfying herself just to stay feeling deeply..
