Beauty On The Fire Lyrics
Here it comes again
Cannot out run my desire
Cover my decent
And throw the beauty on the fire
Drawn towards the edge
Do I assume I could fly?
Every secret shared
Why do I drink the feelings dry?
Don’t go too far
Limitation scars
Tonight,
Could I be lost forever?
To drown, my soul in sensory pleasure,
Sensory pleasure
Here it comes again
You raise the bar even higher
I cannot catch my breath
So throw the beauty on the fire
Don’t push too hard
Limitation scars
Tonight,
Could I be lost forever?
To drown, my soul in sensory pleasure,
Sensory pleasure
Sensory pleasure

Could I be lost forever?
Do I assume I could fly?

Could I be lost forever

For me this song it's about a girl who just doesn't want to get deep in her relationship. I mean, she doesn't want anything serious but he's kinda making it hard for her ("you raise the bar even higher"). So when she says "throw the beauty on the fire", she's actually hoping that he lets her go, she wants him to forget about her cause she knows that if it continues, she could fall and hit the floor really hard. She doesn't want to demonstrate that she is really falling in love with this guy ("cover my descent"), but at the same time she's doubting want she formerly wanted cause aparently she's shared so much with this guy ("drawn towards the edge, do I assume I could fly?, every secret shared..., why do I drink the feelings dry?"). So she's been kinda limitating herself ("limitation scars") but thinking about not to ("tonight, could I be lost forever, to drown my soul in sensory pleasure"). Obviously, she's never had sex whith this guy, and why she says that she could get lost forever drowning her soul in sensory pleasure.
Well, this is an easy one, now all of you might not be as advanced in natalie imbruglia songs, but its obvious this song is about fire. the colors..blue white red and orange. She drowns in them, therefore drowning in sensory pleasure>
My interpretation of "Beauty on the Fire" is that it's a song about something forbidden. It will never be hers and it'll only hurt her if she pursues it, so she loses herself in "sensory pleasure" of thinking of the person. The music video depicts this with Natalie under the ocean trying to get to somewhere - but alas, she has to gasp for air or drown trying to get something that will never be. I'm guessing the song has many meanings at how you look at it. Fire is beautiful yes, but to touch the beauty of it would mean getting burned.
i dont think its really about fire coz in the video she is in water.... i think beauty on the fire is alll that is beautiful or what she finds beautiful .... i.e the sea and ocean :)
the beauty of it all ...... it could even be about how we do destroy all of the beautiful things in the world...hence beauty on the fire
I think this song stretches far deeper than that - touching upon common Christian imagery. If you take Beauty to be Christ, the reference to his being 'on the fire' correlates to his cruxifiction. There are similar, less obvious references, to the death of Christ. The mentions of flying could be seen as imagery of the Ascendancy and 'sensory pleasure' as the pleasure of joining with the Lord in heaven. Limitation scars as a result of this 'pleasure' are a slightly more obvious reference to Stigmata acheived after catching a momentary glimpse of the Lord's pleasure. In short the song refers to the way in which humanity destroys that which strives to do it good
I always thought this song was Natalie wanting to cast away what society calls 'beautiful' and just be herself, be lost forever but be rid of society's constricting labels.
this song always has me guessin. ive had the cd for a while now and i still can't figure it out. every time i hear it, a new meaning comes to mind. the video for it is lovely though
I guess it's about the danger of diving in the deep end. Becoming lost.
Did you know what she sings at the end of this song? It can hardly be understood (at least in the album version) and it's not printed in the lyrics. But it is quite clear from concert recordings:
"Could you watch me fall, could you watch at all, could you watch me fall, another night I'm gone, could you be lost too, is it gonna stop."
Anyway, not "cover my decent", but "cover my DESCENT".
Regarding this song, Natalie said it's about being attracted to things that are bad for you, and that when you have something negative it's good to imagine that you throw it into fire.
Hmmm, wait, I know this may sound dirty but I think it talks about something sexual.
She thinks she's ruining the pretty things of love (throwing the beauty on the fire) by being more intimate with her lover for the first time, she's scared everything beautiful will be lost after that. But she doesn't care, because she thinks fire is beautiful too.
Think about it...
"Here it comes again Cannot out run my desire Cover my decent And throw the beauty on the fire
Tonight, Could I be lost forever? To drown, my soul in sensory pleasure, Sensory pleasure Sensory pleasure Sensory pleasure"
I don't think it's about sex, it's more about addictions, drinking, drugs, and anything that can alter normal behaviour.
