I remember when you seemed real shiny with the sweat of your voice
Shaky hands; super loud and teenage mouth
We were all charmed and taken by your talk
Now I shudder when I hear the rhythm of your walk
Now I’ve got no place to go
I’ve got no place to go
I’ve got no one, nowhere, no one
I have given up on the sparkle that I saw in your eyes
Yeah, I have sinned the sin of wanting more
The belly fire pulls the spirit from the corporate whore
I am embarrassed by the plaid you wear
If I were you I’d hide behind that stupid bleach blonde hair
Now I’ve got no place to go
I’ve got no place to go
I’ve got no one, nowhere, no one
I have given up on the sparkle that I saw in you
Yeah, that simple-minded sparkle that I thought I saw
[instrumental]
Nahh, ahh
Ahh, ahh x2
Ahh…
Ahhh, I have wondered why you changed
You lost me when you were super loud
Whoaa, I wonder why you’ve changed
I liked it when you were super-loud
I’ve got nowhere to go
I’ve got no place to go
I’ve no one, nowhere, no one
I have got no place to go
I have got no place to go
I’ve no one, nowhere, no one
No where, no one
Giving up and giving in, hey
Are you giving in, yeah?
Are you giving in?
Tell me are you giving in?
Shaky hands; super loud and teenage mouth
We were all charmed and taken by your talk
Now I shudder when I hear the rhythm of your walk
I’ve got no place to go
I’ve got no one, nowhere, no one
I have given up on the sparkle that I saw in your eyes
The belly fire pulls the spirit from the corporate whore
I am embarrassed by the plaid you wear
If I were you I’d hide behind that stupid bleach blonde hair
I’ve got no place to go
I’ve got no one, nowhere, no one
I have given up on the sparkle that I saw in you
Ahh, ahh x2
Ahh…
You lost me when you were super loud
Whoaa, I wonder why you’ve changed
I liked it when you were super-loud
I’ve got no place to go
I’ve no one, nowhere, no one
I have got no place to go
I’ve no one, nowhere, no one
Are you giving in, yeah?

its about a chick that is changing and growing apart from him. great great song
He shacked up with a girl who was all sparkle and no substance. At first, she was exciting and novel, but beneath all that she's an immature, annoying person. She didn't change, but his estimation of her did.
I've read that this song is about Kurt Cobain and people compairing Art to Kurt. Seems like kind of a pissed off remark at Kurt selling out, and it really makes sense. :)
"The belly fire pulls the spirit from the corporate whore I'm embarrassed by the plaid you wear If I were you I'd hide behind that stupid bleach blonde hair "
I can't see why anyone would compare Art to Cobain.
Hasn't Art got stupid bleach blonde hair? Maybe its about him.
at first it sounds like its about a a girl but i think its about a band "selling out." i dont think its about kurt cobain cuz i dont see how hes a sellout.
This song is about Kurt Cobain. When Everclear was first showing up, there was a lot of talk about Art being the "new Kurt Cobain." The music had a similar grungy sound. Art wasn't happy about this, because he felt that Nirvana was sell-outs. Also, I'm sure Art had some issues with Kurt's drug use, considering Art's history. As for the song itself, it shows in most of the lines:
"I remember when you seemed real shiny with the sweat of your voice Shaky hands super loud and teenage mouth" "The belly fire pulls the spirit from the corporate whore I'm embarrassed by the plaid you wear If I were you I'd hide behind that stupid bleach blonde hair"
These parts describe Kurt. He had the blonde hair, he yelled, he was young, and he wore the definitive grunge clothing: plaid shirt, tied around the waist.
"Now I've got no place to go, I've got no place to go I've got no one, nowhere, no one"
These lines are about how this was how Art was always described, and how it seemed like that was all he ever heard.
Anyone who plays guitar probably loves this song, because it's so much fun to play.
i dont see how anyone would think its about kurt cobain just because it refrences wearing plaid and bleached blonde hair :-\ seems like its about a girl that he saw as wonderful at first but that faded as time went by.
Cobain or not, how could this song possibly be about any band 'selling out'. For god sake, Everclear did a Gap commercial. In every interview I've ever seen, they all seem to be enjoying their success. Technically if a band has ever sold you anything they have 'sold out' and Art knows this. So point that fucking finger up your ass.
