Shot In The Dark Lyrics
OUT ON THE STREET I'M STALKING
THE NIGHT
I CAN HEAR MY HEAVY BREATHING
PAID FOR THE KILL BUT IT DOESN'T
SEEM RIGHT
SOMETHING THERE I CAN'T BELIEVE
IN
VOICES ARE CALLING FROM INSIDE
MY HEAD
I CAN HEAR THEM I CAN HEAR THEM
VANISHING MEMORIES OF THINGS
THAT WERE SAID
THEY CAN'T TRY TO HURT ME NOW
BUT A SHOT IN THE DARK ONE STEP
AWAY FROM YOU
A SHOT IN THE DARK ALAWYS
CREEPING UP ON YOU
TAUGHT BY THE POWERS THAT
PREACH OVER ME
I CAN HEAR THEIR EMPTY REASON
I WOULDN'T LISTEN I LEARNed HOW
TO FIGHT
I OPENED UP MY MIND TO TREASON
BUT JUST LIKE THE WOUNDED AND
WHEN IT'S TOO LATE
THEY'LL REMEMBER THEY'LL
SURRENDER
NEVER A CARE FOR THAT PEOPLE
WHO HATE
UNDERESTIMATE ME NOW
BUT A SHOT IN THE DARK ONE STEP
AWAY FROM YOU
A SHOT IN THE DARK NOT A THING
THAT YOU CAN DO
A SHOT IN THE DARK ALWAYS
CREEPING UP ON YOU
BUT JUST LIKE THE WOUNDED AND
WHEN IT'S TOO LATE
THEY'LL REMEMBER THEY'LL
SURRENDER
NEVER A CARE FOR THE PEOPLE
WHO HATE
UNDERESTIMATE ME NOW
BUT A SHOT IN THE DARK ONE STEP
AWAY FROM YOU

this song is about spiritual warfare. he's destroyed/defeated someone, physically or maybe just spiritually. he doesnt feel right about it tho. he was taught by the powers, "society" elders etc, to practice the golden rule, turn the other cheek, etc. of course its all bs, and he learns how to fight. when these hypocrites are being beaten, they will "remember" the crap they preach but dont practice. they will "surrender". but he will not care for the ppl who hate(hypocrites) he will show them no mercy. underestimate him and look down on him now, but hes like a shot in the dark- still dangerous, and in the dark, because he does not follow "white light" teachings.
this song sounds like it's about a assassin is walking right behind their victim and while he's doing so he is thinking about how much he hates doing this but it's the only thing he knows how to do and it's all he's ever been taught no matter what it's about it always has been and always will be my fav Ozzy song ever!!!
Sounds like its about a hired killer resenting his job / target to kill. Good song with a short but good Guitar solo from Jake E. Lee.
For those who hate this song, they need to get a life, cause this song kicks ass.
@bill1985 That's so true it does

kicks* ass
People need to play this goddamn song more. I don't care where, but they need to cuz it's the shit.
I remember reading/seeing an interview with Ozzy when this record came out when I was in high school and the explanation he gave was that it was about two assassins in love with each other and they found out their next assignment was each other. Very "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" but 20 years prior.
I take back part of my last comment. It's about an assassin who has to take out someone he's in love with, so ignore the whole "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" crap.
Hmm.. I think this is actually a song about the assassination of John Lennon. It's sung from Mark Chapman's point of view. Just my opinion...
This song was written by Phil Soussan and "The Ultimate Sin" was discontinued so the Osbourne's did not have to keep paying royalties to him.
