You Can't Kill Rock & Roll Lyrics

How many times can they fill me with lies and I listen, again
Twisting the truth and they're playin' around with my head O.K.
The things they will do and the things they will say
When they don't really understand
Tears fill my eyes when I hear all the cries
For the reason today.

And they don't really know even what they're talkin' about
And I can't imagine what empty heads can achieve.

Leave me alone don't want your promises no more
'Cause rock'n'roll is my religion and my law
Won't ever change, may think it's strange
You can't kill rock'n'roll it's here to stay.

Looking through eyes of time mirrors reflecting their stories untrue
Promises promises, telling me all of my glories overdue.
How many times have I heard it before
And I'll probably hear it again
King of a thousand knights, pawn in a table fight
Losing to you.

Even the rhymes that they give me in times of confession ain't true
Outcome is obvious all for them none for us meaning you too.

The things they will do and the things they will say
When they don't really understand.
Fear of rejection I need their protection
I'm making a stand.

Leave me alone don't want your promises no more
'Cause rock'n'roll is my religion and my law
Won't ever change, may think it's strange
You can't kill rock'n'roll it's here to stay.

The song is about how much critics hated Rock music and said it to be the devil's music and just says screw you rock & roll will never die.

Amen Brother! That's the truth.

hmm. you're stories are probably true-er than mine, but here's what i think. (cuz you care!) this is ozzy's stand against the music censorship crap that started to happen in the 1980s. But that's just me. feel free to tell me off and kill me. hearts

Irrespective of who you are this is a GREAT SONG. I just started listening to Ozzy cause I was looking for hellraiser but this is without doubt his coolest track. About the meaning well it seems to be more about withstanding critics from back in the day when rock was constantly ridiculed and just telling them that rock n roll was his way of life and that wouldnt change. It was aslo written to the music execs who try to get fat off the artists by giving them lies after lies so they make more records and get fat off.

just a thought before i go I'll say it again this song kicks ass

This has always been my favorite Ozzy song, ever since I was in high school back in the 80s.

You can't kill Rock N Roll its here to stay.

@purple girl My feelings exactly. This song really spoke to me very personally. Don't know why it wasn't as popular as the other huge hits on this album. The words and depth of music gave it "anthem" status in my book. Anyhow, the 80's was such a good time for music lovers & thrashers. Had I known how severely the next generation would fail, I would have treasured this music and those days much, much more. I would definitely have more concert t-shirts, at the very least =^)

I don't know if this the meaning Ozzy intended, but I think it's kind of about how the elder public don't like new things, such as rock and roll. But I really just wanted to post because I think this song just sounds great. I really like the guitar parts.

This is about Don Arden, and was written about the company he was contracted to. It was basically one big "Fuck you" to the businessmen who lied to him, and used or underpaid him.
