The Pirate And The Penpal Lyrics
you spent the summer at the strawberry stand
there wasn't much that you could do about it
you're fifteen and you're six feet tall
you're flat-chested and you're angry about it
don't wear those push-up pants, you've got enough nicknames already
i asked the postmaster, he said penpals really can't be going steady
told her all about the tighten up
the way they used to dance down in houston, texas
her favorite song is still "forget the swan"
it gives her hope when those guitars kick in
all the money from the strawberry stand slips through your hands
cause you buy too many stamps
spend your days just waitin on the mailman
when he gets here you should ask him for a dance
don't listen to the whispers of the kitchen knife, the bathtub and the rain
yeah so he's a criminal
at least you know he loves you for your brain
told her all about the tighten up
the way they used to dance down in houston, texas
her favorite song is still "forget the swan"
it gives her hope when those guitars kick in
we made it to the getaway
but there were highway barricades
and there was glass and explosions
and there were gunshots and sirens
and the police and the prisons
and she prays for probation
there wasn't much that you could do about it
you're fifteen and you're six feet tall
you're flat-chested and you're angry about it
don't wear those push-up pants, you've got enough nicknames already

One of my favorite Lifter Puller songs. I think it's about a girl who is intelligent, but not great looking who doesn't fit in with the kids at her school but has a penpal who accepts her more than the real people in her life. "Forget the Swan" is by Dinosaur Jr. by the way.
Slight change -
don't wear those push-up pants, you've got enough nicknames already
should be
don't wear those push-up pants, to the football dance, you've got enough nicknames already
This song is amazing. Quite simply about an girl who isnt particularly pretty and doesnt fit in, but has a criminal penpal. She saves money from her job and spends it all on stamps when really she'd be better off kissing the mailman instead. The last verse implies that either (a) she tries to bust him out of jail but it goes wrong, or (b) this is his story, how he got caught, and now she just sits hoping one day he'll get probation so she can see him.
The lines "told her all about the tighten up, the way they used to dance down in houston, texas" refer to the song "Tighten Up" by Archie Bell & the Drells about said dance.
This is one of my favorite Puller songs.
No clue what the song means and have never heard of the band, but one word in the song intrigues me. Man, it would suck to be someone's penpal. What a low rung on the totem pole of life that must be.
