I haven't actually heard the song yet but these lyrics are awesome. Of course I can't get a real feel for them yet without the music because the band might make it feel different but I just thought I should add something...this band doesn't have any posts yet... :)
"Think about what I've got and compare it to what you've got, What do you think my girl wants, my girl wants?"
Two ways to read that:
1.) He's bragging about what he has, likely access to drugs or money, and he's reaffirming his relationship with this crazy chick.
2.) It's a statement of insecurity/pleading. He recognizes he isn't that good of a boyfriend, but she's with him for one reason right now. Likely drugs. With this reading, I get kind of a "Jolene" like plead. "You guys can take her from me, but please don't.
Based on the rest of the song, there's evidence to support both readings. I think the second reading might be more correct, but hard to tell. He shows submissiveness and defensiveness as he defends her for not working and watching daytime TV.
But the very next line supports the first reading: "They think I'm smart, They think it's art but then i start with a crash I'm just a brash trash talker"
