Metal Man Lyrics
I don't know how old I was
But it was a '65 pickup
I was lying on the ground
With flat iron bars over my head
One silver drop is all you need
To put a hole in your head at 2000 degrees
That's right man, you be the Metal Man
At 2000 degrees
That's hot *2
And over my head the hot wire was sparking
I got something down on my chest
And it began to bubble
I was her parent, my three in a tree
When a drip dropped down on me
That's right man, I'm the Metal Man
At 2000 degrees
That's hot
But it was a '65 pickup
I was lying on the ground
With flat iron bars over my head
To put a hole in your head at 2000 degrees
That's right man, you be the Metal Man
At 2000 degrees
I got something down on my chest
And it began to bubble
When a drip dropped down on me
That's right man, I'm the Metal Man
At 2000 degrees

I'm pretty sure that the "three in a tree" bit is actually "three on the tree", which refers to a three-speed standard transmission with the shifter on the steering column (common in older vehicles, like for instance the '65 pickup in the song, but almost forgotten today in North America).
I think maybe... male gaze? It seems like a guy telling about an accident he was involved in. He tells it in a very heroic way, like he was a hero for surviving it. and the voices on the back indicate this too.
@FernandaAline yeah, and I think the repeated "That's hot" indicates the reaction he expects to get from his female audience for having been burned by a drop of solder.

One of my favorite Breeder's songs i thought maybe about adolecent confusion?
Maybe I'm just taking the lyrics too literally, but to me, it's clearly about someone getting run over by a car. Possibly a family, as mentioned above.
i have no idea how you think that interpretation is a literal one. if you want to be literal then it is about someone doing arc welding on an old car. "lying down with metal bars over my face"... is lying down with a welding mask on. "repairing my three on a tree""... that was explained already as a 3 speed transmission with the shifter on the steering column. "over my head the hot wire was sparking"... if you have ever seen arc welding it is pretty obvious what this is. and the melted filler stick...

the movie tetsuo
This is about welding on a truck. Wire is what gets fed out of a MIG welder. The wire becomes molten as an electric arc (spark gap) is formed, instantly melting the wire and metal pieces you are trying to combine with the welding process.
And, if you are under the parts you are welding, you often get spatter which fails on you. Hence wearing welding jackets.
A lot of people don't weld with jackets because it can be tiring, uncomfortable, and constricting. If you choose not to wear protection, you will not only be spattered, but you will get sunburned.
Sounds like the Breeder who wrote this got to have some fun working on a truck.
Maybe it's just a fun memory.
[Edit: Typo]
Either the murder of a family "I was her parent, my three in a tree", being run over "but it was a '65 pick up, i was lying on the ground" or just plain death in general.
