Blow the last candle out. Let the wax harden
I wish I could stop crying. And I wish that someone still loved me [x2]
Just breathe and focus. How can I when the air is so cold and empty,
That my lungs froze right in my chest.
I'll be honest the silver linings are getting harder and harder to manufacture
And the smiles are so difficult to fake.[x2]
What do I have to do, or who do I have to kill, to get what I want. What I need[x2]
Happiness is an emotion I was born to this world without,
nothing pleases me. And i can never be satiated.
Through this toil I will breed my own distress and destroy my best hopes,
fuck up the only things that I love.
I watched my aspirations crashing to the ground,
on the backs of the angels that I've slain.
But I meant so well, I tried so hard, gave everyting in my soul,
to what end, to what end
Desolation, desire, exhale, pass away.[x3]

shall i also type here what Alex says about THIS song? haha sure why not. i'm bored anyway.

"To me this song is about desperation at its most romantic. It's about wanting to have those 'special' moments with someone who isn't interested. When I wrote this it felt like no one loved me back the way I needed it, and every ounce of heartache I had meant nothing to anyone. Everyday was spent under a dark cloud of longing and desire. It really felt like any smile I managed was a lie and a fake, and all I wanted was for someone to love me and hold me and understand me without having to say anything. Sometimes I convinced myself that I had destroyed any good or pure thing that was in my life, and I had brought this upon myself. I just wanted some idea of where to go from there. What is there to look forward to when you can't get out of bed? (To what end?)"

He must have had his heart really broken so many god damn times, because all of the songs have so much anger from loss in them. I still cant get over how powerful all of their lyrics can be, and how great they sound. Atreyu are one of the best.

Yeah I think this song is amazing. I can't wait to see them live in concert. It should be badass. This is my favorite Atreyu song to be honest. The lyrics are incredible.

I saw them with CKY holy shit wut a great way to open a show. The came on second and during the first band, Memento, we were chanting C-K-Y the whole time trying to get them to leave. But when atreyu was on the whole place went nuts. By far the best band Ive ever seen open and I will def see them again. Even my friend who listens to shit like New Found Glory thought they were friggin awesome.

Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
