I've been up and down, I've been all around
I was mystified, almost terrified
But late at night I still hear you call my name

I've been on my own, I've been all alone
I was hypnotized, I felt paralyzed
But late at night I still want you just the same

I've been a gambler, but I'm nobody's fool
And I sure know something, sure know something
You showed me things they never taught me in school
And I sure know something, sure know something
No one can make me feel the way that you do
And I sure know something, aha

I was seventeen, you were just a dream
I was mesmerized, I felt scared inside
You broke my heart and I still can feel the pain

I've been counted out, I've had fear and doubt
I've been starry eyed, never satisfied
Cause late at night I still need you just the same
Just the same

I've been a gambler, but I'm nobody's fool
And I sure know something, sure know something
You showed me things they never taught me in school
And I sure know something, sure know something
No one can make me feel the way that you do
And I sure know something, aha

I've been counted out, I've had fear and doubt
I've been starry eyed, never satisfied
Cause late at night I still need you just the same
Just the same, yeah

I've been a gambler, but I'm nobody's fool
And I sure know something, sure know something
You showed me things they never taught me in school
And I sure know something, sure know something
No one can make me feel the way that you do
And I sure know something, sure know something
No one can tell me till I hear it from you
And I sure know something, sure know something
I've been a gambler, but I'm nobody's fool
Sure know something, sure know something
You showed me things they never taught me in school
Sure know something, sure know something
No one can make me feel the way that you do

After I heard this song the first time--it was on repeat in my car for a week straight.
As for the lyrics--Here's what I'm thinking: This woman broke this guys heart, but he just can't come to terms with it--and can't figure out why--but it's Something.

It's like when a friend asks you, "What is it about them--Why are you so hung up on them?"

And you go "I dunno, dude--but I sure know something.."

haha, does that make any sense?

You remember a friendship from the past and the memories encourage you to keep a positive mindset. This is something they don't teach in school but if you meet the right person you will surely learn about it.

haha yes it does StrutterMercury and I agree with you on the meaning of the song. This song helped me with a relationship...he was a horrible boyfriend in the end but I was to binded by love during the relationship (which the KISS song Love Is Blind helped out too haha) but noone could make me feel the way that he did and he sure did teach me things they would not teach me in school lol

It's about that special relationship, maybe a first love, that just has that spell over you and then you realize no matter that person has shown you, you've been made a fool of.
