Boo Lyrics

Inside this leaking submarine the hull is closing in
the water is above my ankles and I still can't get you off of my
I don't think that we can pull this one off.
We shall see, time will tell but, why does it taste like salt water inside of my mouth?

Some day I will sail again to a distant shore far away
I will sail again to a distant shore far away

If the line snaps and there's no air, will you hold me?
If I'm asleep, will you wake me?
If this rises and we hit the waves, will you dive back down?

Some day I will sail again to a distant shore far away
I will sail again to a distant shore far away

Hi Ho
Something's tugging on my leg and there it goes

Shallow water must be on the horizon but still too far to go
Spilling blood so fast I can't keep up much more

Sorry, sorry. Can't go no more
Sorry, sorry. Can't go no more
Sorry, sorry. Can't go no more (Farway)
Sorry, sorry. Can't go no more
Sorry, sorry. Can't go no more (Farway)
Sorry, sorry. Can't go no more
Sorry, sorry. Can't go no more
Sorry, sorry. Can't go no more
Sorry, sorry. Can't go no more

Everytime i listen to this song i picture this astronaut floating in outerspace all alone. And he doesn't even care. He's not happy or sad.. just kinda chill.. lookin around at all the sweet spacey sites bein all weightless and junk.

This can't possibly have anything to do what the song is actually about.. but whatever.

I think he's talking about being in a relationship that you just know is doomed to fail for whatever reason, but you want to hold to it regardless.

The water is all the problems that they have, and its surrounding them, and as holes gets poked into their relationship, the water comes gushing in. Don't think we can pull this one off/we'll see/time will tell/salt water in my mouth...seems like he's trying to tell himself to wait it out, but try as he might all he can taste is their eventual failure.

In the chorus I think he's saying that he knows that one day he'll get into another relationship and the same problems that hound his current one won't even be an issue. I think it's interesting that he uses "Sail away" i.e. he's gliding over them rather than being surrounded by them...

Line snaps/ Hold me....Sleeping/ Wake me...Hit the waves/dives back down I'm a little unclear on these, but I get the feeling that although the two KNOW the relationship isn't right for them, he wants her to hold on regardless, because being with someone that's not right for you can be easier than being alone.

Shallow water must be on the horizon/ too far to go Spilling blood so fast I can't keep up much more...Once more he's trying to convince himself that if he just sticks it out a little longer, they will reach a point where they can more easily manage their problems, but he's losing his life force in the process, so he can't make it.

Very haunting. The realization that you're with someone that you love but can't be with for your various problems sucks. I think this song captures it perfectly. And yet embedded within the song is a morsel of hope, that some day, he will reach the shores he's been dreaming of for so long. Awesome stuff.

h1ff, i like your interpretation. and I agree, it is most definitely about a relationship that is drowning them both, eventhough they still both want to hold on and keep trying to make it to shore. I think though that it's also about their ignorance to the things that are dragging them down, bc all they can think about is eachother, even when the water is above his ankles he doesn't do anything, and when he can taste the water bc it's risen to his mouth, he still just wants to be with her. beautifully tragic.

I liked this song for a long time, but I have a new appreciation for it now that I see the lyrics. I listened closely, and there are a few errors in this lyric submission. But one I wanted to bring up, it should read…

I don't think that we can pull this one off We shall see, time will tell, what is time? and why does it taste like salt water inside of my mouth?

It’s hard to make out, but he says “what is time?” And I like that part.

I have a disorder.

"And I still can't get you off of my..."

I like the fact that he doesn't finish the sentence; I think it's the point where the water reaches his head and gets in the way of his words.

This song... this song seriously makes me want to cry, if I could put my feelings into words, this is exactly what I feel like. It's insane.. not to mention the beauty of the actual music as well.. probably my favorite song.

My Opinion

If this isn't a case of undying love, i don't know what is. 'water is above my ankles and i still can't get you off of my...' even when he's about to die, he only thinks of his loved one and he struggles to stay alive for her. what a great song. too bad he can't make it to shore... but tragedies are called tragedies for a reason.

"Boo" is an interesting bit, the spoken words in the song ("As I set down these notes on paper..." and "2X2L calling CQ") are from the Orson Wells radio broadcast of "War of the Worlds" in 1938. The title of the song also comes from the radio production. At the end of the broadcast, Orson Wells reassures the public the martian attack was fictional, saying it was "The Mercury Theater's own radio version of dressing up in a sheet and jumping out of a bush and saying 'Boo'..." Perhaps the excerpts from the "War of the Worlds" are simply meant to illustrate the incredible loneliness Palladian illustrated so well.
