I believe that this song is about a guy longing for things to go back the way they once were, but "his girl" doesn't want him for whatever reason. I'm not a expert, but it's just what I think. (yes, greenwheel is really awsome)
I think this song is about being physically seperated "I'm counting the signs and cursing the miles in between" from that person whom you love so much. You were confortable with that person and had built everything around them. They and everything you had with them was your life, your home. This song is about the utmost pain you feel when for whatever reason you are away from that person.
This song is perfect for my situation with this girl I have compltely fallen for. From my point of view, i think this song means that he really loves this girl, but doesnt know if the girl shares the same feelings for him. When hes counting the signs and cursing the miles in between, thats when he realizes all the times he coulda shown her how much he loves her... He is basically depressed any time she is not around (i know this feeling too well)...

2manarmy, the entire album is excellent and you should hear the stuff they left off the album. The song is about being away from a loved one. I believe it was written while the band was recording the album. The situation inspired the lyrics.
to me this song is about how he misses (probably a girlfriend, but you never know, it could be anyone)
"longing for home again, but home is a feeling i've buried in you" i think that means that he wants to go home, or back to the way things used to be, but he can't because he only feels at home with her, but he's saying to her "i'm alright... it only hurts when i breathe"

I think this is another great band worthy of being famous..they are so good and this song is so creative..it only hurts when i breath..come on that is so stellar!! But home is a feeling ive buried in u..man i love this song.
