Storms In Africa Lyrics
Cá fhad é ó
Cá fhad é ó
Siúl tríd na stoirmeacha.
Dul tríd na stoirmeacha.
Cá fhad é ó
an tús don stoirm.
Cá fhad é ó
an tús go deireadh.
Tóg do Chroí.
Siúl tríd na stoirmeacha.
Tóg do chroísa.
Dul tríd na stoirmeacha.
Turas mór.
Tor tríd na Stoirmeacha.
Turas fada.
Amharc tríd na Stoirmeacha
Cá fhad é ó
Siúl tríd na stoirmeacha.
Dul tríd na stoirmeacha.
Cá fhad é ó
an tús don stoirm.
Cá fhad é ó
an tús go deireadh.
Tóg do Chroí.
Siúl tríd na stoirmeacha.
Tóg do chroísa.
Dul tríd na stoirmeacha.
Turas mór.

I think Enya is talking about the sufferings of the people in Africa...with the poverty, apartheid, starvation, and disease-ridden lands....these people are suffering, and she is giving them words of hope. what a beautiful message of hope and peace....
Gotta agree with you there. Pretty open and shut, the meaning of this song. I think you worded quite nicely.

i think it's a about storm in africa (duh?!)....but in a metaphore. Africa, a dessert & dry country, isn't it always stormy and heavy when a rain come?because there's only small trees etc. But water is always a blessing in that dry area.
Storm symbolize trouble or big problem.. Lift your heart Walk through the storms Lift your heart! Go through the storms get through it, don't run from your problems. the she says "long journey, LOOK THROUGH the storm" look beyond your trouble, there'll be some solution. After the storm, the blessing of the water will be the success and your achievement, you know --mistake / trouble that don't kill you only makes you stronger--
after the storm, maybe there will be a rainbow..right? i always think enya's song is so optimistic and inspiring..
daz_spaz, thank you for the translation, does Storm in africa II have the same meaning with this song?
Gaelic is the ancient language of the Celts, a barbaric but artistic people that occupied nearly all of Europe at their peak.
not only does Enya (who is from Ireland) sing in this beautiful language, but she also sings in Latin and French and, of course, English.
i cannot translate this. i don't know Gaelic as well as i should. regardless, music is universal, and so language barriers do not matter to me.
Enya's music, in any language, is gorgeous. there are several people who will agree.
If it will shut you two up, here is a translation.
How long is it since How long is it since Walk through the storms Go through the storms
How long is it since The start of the storm How long is it From beginning to end
Lift your heart Walk through the storms Lift your heart! Go through the storms
Great Journey Heavy, through the storms
Long Journey Look through the storms
Thank you ~ It is nice to know what this beautiful song says in a language I can understand.

She also lives in Ireland doesn't she? Therefore, no one here should care whether she speaks english or not. If she was an immigrant, I could understand the protests against other languages, but she isn't one, so it doesn't matter. She sings beautifully in any language and that's all that matters.
what to say about enya. she is amazing. her music is amazing. it cuts right through to the core of you. im irish (although i dont live in ireland) and this song is an amazing take on traditionally irish songs. i agree with muzig on the meaning.
Cá fhad é ó Siúl trÃd na stoirmeacha. Dul trÃd na stoirmeacha.
Cá fhad é ó An tús don stoirm. An tús go deiradh.
Tóg do ChroÃ. Tóg do chroÃsa.
Turas mór. Tor trÃd na Stoirmeacha.
Turas fada. Amharc trÃd na Stoirmeacha.
(Translation: How far is it from? Walking through the storms Going through the storms
How far is it from? The beginning of the storm The start to the end
Take your heart Take your beloved
Long Journey Heavy through the storm
Long Journey Look through the Storm )

well i think this song is absolutely beautiful, whatever it means, though thankyou for the translation :) does it always matter what the meaning is though? though i tend to want to know i just love the beauty of this song, i think its really amazing. and enya is so good at capturing a feeling, this is what a storm in africa would sound like if you put it in music.
Well, a meaning would be nice, for the sake of songmeanings.com.
