My favorite TP song. His voice is just filled with emotion as he recounts the tale and how no matter what, and no matter what anyone else said, he knew he had to take the chance and be with this person. His realization the others were correct and he's been hurt, doesn't matter to him. The memory he has of being with her is still all important to him and he has no regrets.
The man was warned that this woman never commits to anyone, but he needed to take a chance instead of wondering what might have been.

@jlk183 No offense but I've always disagreed with the idea of "the one what got away". Nobody can "get away" from you; as if you had them locked in a cage. They make a choice to not be with you, and you have to deal with it.

My favourite Petty song too. There's a desperation to The Wild One Forever. You get the sense that he's looking back at those intense moments years later but the emotions remain fresh.
