The Thirst Is Taking Over Lyrics

CHORUS:
You alone are what my soul needs
You know the thirst is taking over
hardly breath, I'm in urgent need
You know the thirst is taking over.

The thirst is taking over.

Hold me down, Hold me down
drip it on my tongue
and my convulsions stop
Thirst for love, thirst for your love
I could swallow your beauty whole

Running out, times running out
Searching for the One who can conquer me
I'm gonna scream aloud, throw it down
Crash in the sweet obsessions of you
I'm gonna swim & drown in the wake of you.

The thirst is taking over

I wanna taste it
I need to taste it
Deep in my saviors arms

I wanna drink you in
I am drinking you in
I wanna drink you in.

Hardly breath, I'm in urgent need
You know the thirst is taking over.
The thirst is taking over.

I wanna taste it
I need to taste it
Deep in my Savior's arms

A freaking masterpiece. Once you've tasted God, you won't be able to get enough. It's the only addiction worth having. It can take over your life and there's no experience comparable to that. Cooper describes this feeling incredibly in the lyrics and music was undoubtably born out of the depths of this emotion.

I'm a bit confused by the line "I could swallow your beauty whole" as it seems a bit inconsistent with the rest of the song, but there's a few vague connotations that could render it consistent. If nothing else it's served to provoke much thought on the subject.

It seems like I read an interview with Skillet in which Korey mentioned that this was her favorite song off the Alien Youth album...I share her sentiments.

i think the "I could swallow your beauty whole" bit could mean that once you've tasted God you want more, kinda emphasising the point.

I love how this song builds and almost sneaks up on you in intensity. I'm an avid runner and this song always finds its way onto my mp3 player playlist... so much emotion

I didn't hear this song until a few months ago, I'm suprised only one person has posted their liking for it. Because this song has so much depth and emotion going on. It does build and keeps building. The love for God in this man is strong.

This is an awesome song, and it is great to listen to and just think about God.

This song is about complete and total submission to the glory and power of God. This song recognizes the ultimate power God has to satisfy our thirst. One of the most beautiful shows of raw emotion and our need for God. Simply amazing.

I think this music can have two meanings: 1) Someone who loves God a lot or; 2) Someone who loves someone a lot.

About the line "I could swallow your beauty whole", i can see that he is talking about a kind of unmaterial beauty, or the inside beauty of the one he loves or the beauty of God just for being what he is.

this song makes me think of vampires.

the lines;

Hold me down, Hold me down drip it on my tongue and my convulsions stop Thirst for love, thirst for your love I could swallow your beauty whole

sound almost exactly like the process of turning a mortal into a vampire.

some of the lyrics seem to have vampirific/sexual connotations:

"i want to taste it let me taste it"

"i want to drink you in i am drinking you in"

"the thirst is taking over"

"i want to swallow your beauty whole"

i now know it's about a passionate love for God, though when i first heard the song, i was convinced it was about vampires and bloodlust. still think it's a great song.

sorry if i've offended any christians.

ok, I know that Skillet is a religious band, and that this song is about the band's love of God...

but does anyone else hear this song and think it sounds very, very sexual?

I've heard from my Christian ffriends how powerful and passionate their love for God can be, and maybe it's just that I'm not religious and therefore cannot imagine it, but to me everything about this song is, basically, about sex, physyical love of another person, possibly even fellacio (erm, hi..."swallow your beauty whole"?)

I'm sorry if I offended anyone (well, actually I'm not really, since this is all obviously just my opinion and I would hope everyone could recognize that... but yeah, it's a nice sentiment, right? lol)

Thirst is Taking Over = song about sex

to me

sorry
