You Only Tell Me You Love Me When You're Drunk Lyrics
What a performance tonight
Should I react or turn off
the light?
Looks like you're picking
a fight
in a blurring of wrong
and right
But how your mood changes
You're a devil, now an angel
Suddenly subtle and solemn
and silent as a monk
You only tell me you love me
when you're drunk
It's better than nothing,
I suppose
some doors have opened,
others closed
but I couldn't see you exposed
to the horrors behind some
of those
Somebody said: listen
don't you know what
you're missing?
You should be kissing him
instead of dissing him like
a punk
But you only tell me you love
me when you're drunk
You only tell me you love me
when you're drunk
All of my friends keep
asking me
Why, oh, why
do you not say goodbye?
If you don't even try
you'll be sunk
‘cause you only tell me you
love me when you're drunk
What's the meaning
when you speak with so
much feeling?
Is it over when you're sober?
Am I junk?
You only tell me you love me
when you're drunk
You only tell me you love me
when you're drunk
Should I react or turn off
the light?
Looks like you're picking
a fight
in a blurring of wrong
and right
But how your mood changes
You're a devil, now an angel
Suddenly subtle and solemn
and silent as a monk
You only tell me you love me
when you're drunk
I suppose
some doors have opened,
others closed
but I couldn't see you exposed
to the horrors behind some
of those
Somebody said: listen
don't you know what
you're missing?
You should be kissing him
instead of dissing him like

But you only tell me you love
me when you're drunk
You only tell me you love me
when you're drunk
asking me
Why, oh, why
do you not say goodbye?
If you don't even try
you'll be sunk
‘cause you only tell me you
love me when you're drunk
when you speak with so

Is it over when you're sober?
Am I junk?
You only tell me you love me
when you're drunk
You only tell me you love me
when you're drunk

This song is pure genious. It's beautiful and the lyrics are amazing. This is my favorite song off of Nightlife, although "Vampires" is really good as well. As for the previous post, Neil is talking to his boyfriend about their relationship. He's talking about how when his partner is drunk, his stability wall crumbles and he lets out all these feelings he keeps inside, but when he's sober, it's all over and he's back to Mr. Stability who never wears his heart on his sleeve. I love this song, and I recommend it to everyone who likes good music!
Good song. Neil is in love with a boyfriend that loves him too, but wants to be apart from the society probably for being ashamed because of sexual orientation. And don't tell him "I love you" when he's sober because he doesn't accept himself
i've never actually heard the song, but i love the lyrics. does the fact that she's drunk give her the courage to say how she really feels? or does she treat him like dirt and say what he wants to hear to keep him hanging in there?
This song was once my reality
i totally agree with o0Sid0o .i am sure lots of people can relate to this one .Simple words & uncomplicated lyrics say it all
I both love and hate this song. Lyrically & musically i love it. But i hate it for the way the lyrics ring true. :/
I always had wondered if his lover only said i love you when drunk because he didn't really mean it and was just wasted or if he really meant it and was to reserved to say it when sober. Either way, it's a great song.
