I Just Can't Help Believin' Lyrics

I just can't help believin'
When she smiles up soft and gentle
With a trace of misty morning
And the promise of tomorrow in her eyes

I just can't help believin'
When she's lying close beside me
And my heart beats with the rhythm of her size
This time the girl is gonna stay
This time the girl is gonna stay
For more than just a day

Oh, I just can't help believin'
When she slips her hand in my hand
And it feels so small and helpless
As my fingers fold around it like a glove

I just can't help believin'
When she's whispering her magic
And her tears are shining honey sweet with love
This time the girl is gonna stay
This time the girl is gonna stay
For more than just a day
For more than just a day

BJ Thomas wrote it but Elvis sang it so much better. A nice song about a guy who just can't believe how lucky he is to have found such a great woman. He is head over heals in love with her. It's obviuosly in the beginning of the relationship, he is falling is love and this time the girl is gonna stay for the night, yee whoooo! She's moving in or it's in that intial phase.

That's interesting. I always interpreted this song as being a bit sad. The line "for more than just a day" is why. It's as if the girl is continually coming in and out of the guy's life/company. He likes being with her, obviously, but she's undecided over him. Maybe I got it wrong, but that line does sound a bit ambiguous.

Lovely song that Elvis made his own with his unique voice. It is about a man who's lost love returned and he can't believe he is lucky to have a second chance, but will she stay for god this time?

It is beautiful. I listen to it as an image of how after a divorce you are happy that your kid (in this case daughter) is at your place, while other times at your ex’s. For me it is therefore much more subtle than a love song. When Boys Town Gang recorded it in the 80s (horrible but funny version), the female singer sang about ‘the boy is honna stay’ and I thought that theu really didn’t understand the meanibg of the song…. (But it is obviously just my interpretation :-))
