Should've Been In Love Lyrics

You been dealing with all of these feelings
Like they got you believing they have no meaning,
But they do

Your life's been stinking, your heart's been sinking,
And you're too busy thinking to stop
You blink and you're blue

Should've been in love
Should've been in love

Your mind's been racing, your heart's been chasing,
And you might as well face it, time's wasting,
It's true

Your life's been stinking, your heart's been shrinking,
And you're too busy thinking to stop
You blink and you're blue

Should've been in love
Should've been in love

I know how it goes,
So I just had to let you know I know

My life's been stinking, my heart's been shrinking,
And I'm too busy thinking to stop
I blink and you're gone

Should've been in love
We should've been in love
We should've been in love

I think there are people who are always looking for relationships for whatever reason (they always feel incomplete when they're not with someone, they have emotional problems and feel the need to latch onto someone else, etc.). But I think this song is about people on the other end of the spectrum. People who never think they need a significant other to make their life complete. I always picture this song being from the perspective of someone who had missed out on what he/she thought could've been true love because he/she didn't want to commit or didn't have the time for it. So in a way I agree with PrenticeGT's view.

to me, it's a about 2 people who have lots in common, both going through a difficult time...in a perfect world, that would have brought them together, making eachother happy.

Pretty much what gish said, these two people really like(d) each other but somethin happened and now she has doubts, she is afraid to commit, or she has cheated on him. Now he (the person who was true in the relationship) is in a sad state of mind. He feels she is wasting her time with other people and should be with him.

THis song is about a friend commisserating with a heart-broken friend. "I know how it goes, So I just had to let you know I know" as in --- I've been there too.

Sad to say, I know EXACTLY what this song is about. JUST broke up with a guy because I cared and he... well, I have no idea; he never gave me any clue as to his feelings. "Should've been in love" --- refers to the guy (for me). I was crazy about him and he should've been in love but wasn't. Doesn't feel very good when your heart is shrinking. "Your mind's been racing, your heart's been chasing, And you might as well face it, time's wasting" I thought about him all the time - my heart was chasing after someone who was never going to love me. It was a waste of time... I finally told him that if he didn't love me by now, he probably never would.

One of my top 5 Wilco songs. Definiteley about a missed opportunity with a girl or describing a whole period of his life where perhaps he was miserable about something. Instead of focusing his thoughts on hard times or even trivial crap he probably should have been in love with someone, that would have been so much more meaningful. Sadly beautiful song. That and Dash 7 really pull on my heart strings.

All around great tune. Definetly a personal jam.

Simple and fun to listen to. It's probably my favorite off of AM.

Good song. Perhaps about two people who are only together out of loneliness.
