The whole thing deals with the crucifiction of christ. The first bit on the leather soles. That deals with everyone comes to church on Easter Sunday. Toasting the noble host who gave up the ghost is the eucharist in honor of Jesus. The wooden coffer section. Passing the offering. The creditor and debtor parts. Judas was given 30 silver coins for the betrayal and when he hanged himself, gave the money back. The synagogue leaders bought a field for graves that was before used for pottery clay. Potter's field. The whole song is about the superficiality of supposed believers. No matter all this sacrifice, the sons of Cain and descendants of Adam and Eve are still burdened by life. |

Actually, it's a satirical song making fun of the majority of the Christian Right and ignorant in America. Evernone knows that Islam is a very peaceful and loving religion, and by writing a song upholding the stereotype of moslems, it's making fun of the ignorant who actually believe that.... Something along the lines of the satire written back in the 1800's by an English man saying that since the English hated the Irish and they had no use, they should kill the kids and use them for food. This isn't serious, and anyone who takes it that way should kind of step back and analyze themselves. |

I think this song captures the true essence of war perfectly, as something that is inherently evil and a devolution to mankind. Germany pulled out of the League of Nations, and then began to occupy Poland and Czechoslavakia (most notably, the Sudetenland). Well, Ashcroft has pretty much taken over the Pentagon, the US effectively quit the UN and started war without a vote. And pretty soon, we're gonna occupy Iraq, Syria, Iran, and a host of other countries. Then you can also look at the taking away of rights by the two Patriot Acts (one getting rid of probable cause, search and seizure by warrant only), and the reinstitution of the draft. Man. I just found this group the other day, download the song, and realized that it hits really close to home. Here's the deal: This guy is totally in love with this girl. They've either been casually dating or just friends, and one night, he wants to go see her. Yet, this other guy was with her. She'd found someone else, and was falling for the new guy. Kind of like having a big damn rock fly right out of the sky and hit you (or a satellite from space). Yet, instead of being an ass like most guys, he simply stays by her side, being a good friend and a good guy. I'd like to hope that after the flight in space, she comes back down to Earth for him. But, that's wishful thinking... |

There are plenty of bands I like because of only one song and that doesn't mean they suck. And know what? They became a band so the could *gasp* play music for people. Wow. It's not always true that a song is better when done by the original artist. Point in case, Blue Monday by New Order. I love New Order, but the Orgy version was a hell of a lot better. Same for the Shades Apart punk version...much better than the original. I happen to like System's cover of Black Sabbath better, though I happen to love Ozzy. |

This song is, in fact, about Dwyer. He went into a bank, and having held the place "hostage" (for lack of a better term), he shot himself on live TV. Richard was afraid at first that many people would think it was about Cobain, but he released the song anyway.
