I think the lines like, "From this position, I totally get how the decision was reached" are (like a lot of James Murphy's lyrics) meant to be ironic. I think the song is about how all the bad things that happen in life wear you down and sap your energy. Eventually you reach a point where you can't take a definite position on any issue because you're too weak, and all you can resort to is the weary acceptance of both sides.
Hence the lines: "It's kind of like eating myself to death", "I'm coming back, coming back until there's nothing left in the well", "I'm paralyzed and looking through you", "as we compromised every good person", "to use up your desire for discovery", and particularly:
"So while times have been tough, and times have been tough / You've been put down, washed up, and rinsed out / But honestly, and be honest with yourself / How much time do you waste? How much time do you blow every day?"
Therefore, when he says "And it goes pow pow pow", "it" refers to modern life rocketing at you, hitting you with problems, difficulties and decisions, gradually beating you into submission. Just my interpretation. |

This song is definitely about sex. Why do people find that so hard to accept? The guy is quite plainly saying "I NEVER CAME" over and over again.
That doesn't mean that the song is shallow, obscene or just a big joke. It's perfectly serious, and it is also a relationship song. But it is fundamentally about sex sex SEX. |

I've always thought that this song is about some kind of voyeurism fetish. The line "I could see his hands, they were touching you all night" is immediately followed by the line "Touch yourself, touch yourself/Touch each other in black and white". To me this is describing a man watching his wife/girlfriend cheating on him, and finding it arousing. The photographer references add to this (photographers are often accused of being voyeurs). Or I could just have a sick mind... |

I've always taken this song to be simply about one who is an outcast observing society from the outside. They appear content to be out of it because of the mess that it has become.
Probably the Manics' best lyrics, and some of the best I've ever heard - up there with Love Will Tear Us Apart. |

Gorillaz surprised me by producing what is clearly the best song on the Help album. It's amazing how Damon just keeps getting better at singing and writing lyrics as he gets older. The only correction I can see is that he says 'shit' rather than 'great', as in "Pick the shit up leave it clean". |

Haha, I don't think there's much depth to this, it's just an ode to White Lightning, which is the only cider you can drink and also unblock your sink with.
Having said that, the drunks round here seem to prefer an EVEN CHEAPER cider called White Storm. Also, they tend to look reminiscent of the guy in the picture that goes with this song. |

Lyrically this album is quite depressing and deals a lot with loss, death and paranoia. In some ways it's reminiscent of Radiohead's Hail To The Theif because it's not focussing on attacking the politicians; it's trying to be sympathetic to people's fears. And yeah, the songs do tie together well. |

This song is great, but definitely not about having a good time. He describes perfectly how you can feel really shit and lonely and paranoid in a club, but pills can overwhelm that feeling. It's like he's fighting against them because everything's wrong, but in the end just has to give in. |

I agree with catalan... to say this is about lovers running into the wilderness or the end of the world is taking it too literally. It's just about being young and totally focused on one other person, wanting to escape the neighbourhood that is critiqued throughout the series of songs. And yeah, the songs seem to be sequenced in order of age. |
