Bush – Glycerine Lyrics | 8 years ago |
@[dbbolton:10178] If you look at the date on the comment, Wikipedia had barely even been around for one year at that point. The commenter was most likely thinking of nitroglycerine and got confused. |

Nickelback – Throw Yourself Away Lyrics | 12 years ago |
You can read about the real case to which this song references on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melissa_Drexler I find this song to be incredibly insensitive and oversimplifying of the situation. It just further shows me how distasteful and uncreative is Nickelback. I understand people being upset about the situation, but to think you can be the judge without all the facts and without meeting the people is disgraceful. To then wish death upon others in song knocks them down another level. Feeling sad for the child, that is normal and good. Feeling angry at the mother, that's understandable. But stop there, please. |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Road Trippin' Lyrics | 12 years ago |
"Hunky dory" is an idiom meaning "everything is fine; going well." I don't think Anthony was constructing a Jabberwocky lyric, he's referencing the three of them as being easy going, listening to Snakefinger. "Got our Snakefinger on" could also be stated by you as "got my RHCP on." "We three hunky dories got our Snakefinger on" translates to "We three chill dudes are listening to Snakefinger" |

It's about granite mining, not gold mining. |
Rise Against – Like The Angel Lyrics | 15 years ago |
It's lightness, blindness would make zero sense. Feeling light in the chest is a common idiom. |
Rise Against – Like The Angel Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Those are correct and make sense. I'll break it down for you. "like the angel you are" you're an angel "you laugh creating a lightness in my chest" when you laugh, i feel good with a tingling in my heart |

The Decemberists – Los Angeles, I'm Yours Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Bad ADimeADexter! No cookie for you! In the second verse, the last line is "Los Angeles my love" In the third verse, the first line is "Oh what a rush of ripe élan" So, the full lyrics are: There is a city by the sea A gentle company I don’t suppose you want to And as it tells its sorry tale In harrowing detail Its hollowness will haunt you Its streets and boulevards Orphans and oligarchs it hears A plaintive melody Truncated symphony An ocean’s garbled vomit on the shore, Los Angeles, I’m yours Oh ladies, pleasant and demure Sallow-cheeked and sure I can see your undies And all the boys you drag about An empty fallow fount From Saturdays to Mondays You hill and valley crowd Hanging your trousers down at heel This is the realest thing As ancient choirs sing A dozen blushing cherubs wheel above Los Angeles my love Oh what a rush of ripe élan Languor on divans Dalliant and dainty But oh, the smell of burnt cocaine The dolor and decay It only makes me cranky Oh great calamity, Ditch of iniquity and tears How I abhor this place Its sweet and bitter taste Has left me wretched, retching on all fours Los Angeles, I’m yours Just in case you wanted to be lazy and be able to copy and paste in one swift selection. I'll see if I can officially get them changed as well... |
The Who – Helpless Dancer Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Correct lyrics: When a man is running from his boss Who holds a gun that fires "cost" And people die from being old Or left alone because they're cold And bombs are dropped on fighting cats And children's dreams are run with rats If you complain you disappear Just like the lesbians and queers No one can love without the grace Of some unseen and distant face And you get beaten up by blacks Who though they worked still got the sack And when your soul tells you to hide Your very right to die's denied And in the battle on the streets You fight computers and receipts And when a man is trying to change It only causes further pain You realize that all along Something in us's going wrong... You stop dancing. |

AFI – Clove Smoke Catharsis Lyrics | 19 years ago |
antisoap and rpscreamer both have the right idea, in my opinion. This song uses the picture of smoking a clove cigarette and the straight edge message to evoke a million other greater truths. A clove cigarette is intensely sweet and delicious while smoking it, but afterwards it leaves a burning, bitter flavor in your mouth. "If only pure sweetness was offered, why's this bitter taste left in my mouth?" Also, if you inhale the smoke, it burns your lungs more intensely than most other smoking leafs. Thus, you normally only pull the smoke into your mouth alone, and then exhale. This is referenced to as well. "If I could catch my breath just to exhale, I'd know that I held it in to long......" More importantly, these two phrases have so much more meaning. I'm sure you can think of many life situations that may offer wonderful sweetness, but then leave a bitter feeling afterwards. Davey uses this idea in conjuction with the analogy of smoking a clove cigarette. While he may profess to be straight edge, he wasn't always, and draws upon past experience of having smoked cloves to tell others his views on drugs and all of life's other experiences. Now, that only addresses the middle of the song. The first part: "Lean against the night and laugh as I try to scale the walls. Ingnored futility fills the air. You're only there to watch me fall... " Speaks of someone sitting back and observing the main character as he tries to pass some insurmountable obstacle, just waiting for him to fall and, thus, fail. This is widely open to interpretation. I'm sure you can think of a time in life when one feels that what they are trying to accomplish is impossible and everyone is just waiting and watching for the person to fall and fail. Drugs, relationships, it's all in there if you want it to be. Davey has said this song was written with drugs in mind, thus I'll use that as an example. The main character is trying to climb the wall of addiction, trying to get out of using drugs, but his friends who are reliant on them sit back and know he can't win and will just fall back to using drugs with them. There are many other ways to attatch drugs to this, my example is just one. It easily follows into the last part: "From above comes a faint smile, a new vantage such a view. Familiarity know disowned. Just sit and stare as I walk away." The main character has actually made it to the top of the wall, and faintly smiles. He has disowned what was once familiar to him and walks away, as the person who was waiting for him to fall sits and stares. Back to the drug example, the main character has overcome addiction and is moving on into the, unfamiliar or at least far enough in the past to have forgotten, future of a drug free life. His friends who still are on drugs only sit and stare, and most likely return to their drug use. Once again, this is just one possible way out of many to make up a story using the meanings this song conveys. This song is vague enough to be widely interpretted, and yet specific enough and using a beautiful analogy in order to direct the listeners thoughts in the direction that Davey has in mind. The title has everything to do with this song. If you've ever smoked a clove cigarette, you'd know. You would also then understand a little better the analogy this song is drawing, but it is easy enough to grasp to where you don't have to go out and buy a pack to smoke in order to understand the song. :) The important thing to note here is that life is bittersweet and you just have to keep moving toward your goals, past the obstacles, and victory can be attainable, although possibly at the cost of familiar territory. It is a general truth and important message about life, making for a song open to vastly different interpretations with similar meaning, and thus easily relateable to oneself. |

Tool – Lateralus Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I've said what I need to say about this song, but I need to say that contrary to what Everlong thinks, Aenima was never meant to be called Anemia. It is purposely spelled the way it is. It is a combination of Anima and Enima, meaning to flush your inner hatred from yourself. This can be read in the Tool FAQ at: http://toolshed.down.net |
Tool – Die Eier Von Satan Lyrics | 21 years ago |
i'd like to make a few points and a few requests. a) Most americans think George W. Bush is an idiot too. He didn't even get the majority of votes. Our electoral college backfired, instead of preventing people who know nothing from voting for anyone, it ended up putting a complete fool in office. But don't blame us citizens, it was the government's fault. b) Don't generalize. All americans don't support the war either. Millions protested. This country is government led, just like, um, pretty much every country. Thus, it is unfair to treat all americans as you would treat our leaders for actions that are, for the most part, out of the citizens control. This type of generalization occurs when people consider all germans to be nazis, which is just ignorant. Most germans feel ashamed for the hitler chapter of their past, just as many americans are ashamed of our recent, seeming "take over the world" attitude. c) While this site is wonderful for it's forum-like characteristics, it's purpose is not to discuss politics, it's to discuss the song under which these comments are posted. There are other places to go if you want to tout your opinion about the state of the world. please only include your comments on this song, and don't berate and demean people for their comments. Simply make a differing opinion. Calling names will get you nowhere in here, i assure you. d) This song is about Russian Tea Cakes made with a knifepoint of Turkish hashish. Check out the Tool FAQs, they explain that. They are not brownies, cookies, or anything other than Russian Tea Cakes made with a kifepoint of Turkish hashish, as i said. e) Yes, recipes do work without eggs. I'm shocked to hear that people believe otherwise... f) There's probably more to say, but i've typed enough. Here's another fact: This song was sung by Marko Fox, and he was a member of the band Zaum. |

p.p.s - does anyone know what that sound is from Mantra on the CD Lateralus? |
Tool – Lateralus Lyrics | 22 years ago |
alright, it seems that the meanings i agree with the most have been stated. read pretty much anything that stayhuman has posted, he/she seems to have the most steadfast grip on the song's lyrics. maynard is an incredible lyricist, he puts so much personal emotion into it, it seems, and yet he stays general enough for us all to relate and interpret. about the religion issue, i'm christian. it's weird to see that i could be in one half of the world and see people ridiculed for not believing in christianity, but be in another half and be ridiculed for what i profess to be my beliefs. i see being christian as only saying that you agree with the teachings of jesus christ, just as a buddist would say they agree with the teachings of buddah. it's easy to judge people when they profess a religion because you have so many other people to weigh them against, but i believe you should take each person as an individual and keep your mind open to other teachings as well. maynard keeps an open mind, he does not tear at the ideas of christianity or other religion, but at the fact that beleifs can be limiting and organizing a religion only causes us to be herded like sheep in our fence of faith. i think that when people profess a religion, they should only be saying that their particular beliefs are what they feel closest to, not necessarily that they will condemn all those who walk a different path. just like the people in this forum generaly attempt to persuade others to take on their interpretations, people of a particular religion will attempt to persuade others to take on their believes. i find it aggrevating when others riducule others for their opinions and beliefs, just as it should be with religion. embrace all ideas, take what you hold the closest and profess it to others while keeping an open eye and open mind to the world around you. stay human. these are issues that will forever ride the backs of the travelers of life, it is how we carry ourselves under this burden that we created that portrays ourselves as individuals. anyway, that's my opinion, obviously, and i would be interested in hearing what other people have to say. *´¯`·.¸.· antiaverage ·.¸.·´¯`* p.s. - Maynard's other band, A Perfect Cirlce (APC) is also very good. i suggest those of you who like Tool to take a listen, but don't put the CD in expecting the same music as Tool. Clear your mind and open your ears, Maynard expands on some more of his ideas, i can't wait to see his two bands live, Billy (the guitarest from APC and the guitar tech for Tool) is incredible. |

Mest – Mother's Prayer Lyrics | 22 years ago |
wow, The1AndOnlyJanelle, did you just come in here to be an ass? The song can have a different meaning for different listeners. Don't judge people based on what they like, it's what they like. You don't have to, and you can also lay off. I think this song definitely pertains to the death of a loved one, particularly the lyricists mother, but it can apply to anyone who was loved and lost. It's wonderful lyrically and melodically, and while a lot of Mest is better fast, this song is accentuated by it's slow tempo. That's my opinion. Later. |
Bush – Glycerine Lyrics | 22 years ago |
it doesn't say nitroglycerine, it says glycerine. it's not about being explosive, it's about the clear, odorless, tasteless substance. basically, "dont' let the days go by" like glycerine, nearly featureless, cold, and unresponsive |
Boy Hits Car – The Rebirth Lyrics | 22 years ago |
i relate to this song. it has energy in the guitar work and emotion in the vocals. it's about leaving behind the structured society and finding a rebirth into the freedom of peace and passion. i've had this CD in my car for about a month now, and it hasn't left without a great deal of protest from me, and then it immediately goes back in once the space is freed up. musically, these guys are very talented. |
Boy Hits Car – Lovefurypassionenergy Lyrics | 22 years ago |
also, just to let you know, this is just my opinion. i don't think BHC sold out, it was just a statement, oh, and don't go flaming me about not liking the WWF, it's just my opinion. i look at some of the other forum posts, and it ends up in an all out argument about who's right and who's wrong. state your opinion, please, just don't go down on mine. thanks. |
Boy Hits Car – Lovefurypassionenergy Lyrics | 22 years ago |
i, myself, cannot stand "professional wrestling." it almost makes me feel like BHC sold out, but then again, i think their musicianship is incredible. the guitar work weaves in and out into intricate patterns and the singer knows how to work his voice, so i don't care that this was stuck on some little CD by the WWF. BHC made some money, i hope they enjoy that, but i don't think it has anything to do with that "sport." it's about breaking free from the confines of a structured society "Growing out through a crack / In the bustling sidewalk" but this isn't even one of their best songs. if you like this one, i suggest going and getting some of their other music, such songs as "before we die" and "i'm a cloud" because if this is all you heard due to that little output from the WWF, you've missed out on the best of this band |
Rage Against the Machine – Guerrilla Radio Lyrics | 22 years ago |
ok, the point here is to state opinions about the song. we all know that. so whatever you guys are arguing about, let's curve it back to the music. nothingface shouldn't have to be defending himself here, this is an open forum, of course opinions are going to clash. that's how this works. he's not wrong, the people disputing him aren't wrong, it's all opinion. let it go. yeah, you know that. anyway, back to the music. i agree with the statement that the guitar work gets a bit frustrating sometimes. take the overly played song "wake up." i mean, wow, that's like two notes there at the beginning, but yes, it still sounded good. a lot of tom's stuff sounds good. it's not about being technical, it's also about finding a sound you like, even if it takes the mentality of a first year guitar student. yeah, the rapping can get annoying to, but i go into phases of likeing it, and then hating it. RATM is a good band in the fact that they are involved with their musical views both politicaly and socially. they follow the crowd of anti-conformists, the machine of society, but it does seem that anti-conformity is sort of conformist these days anyway. RATM is a band you can love and hate. take the good old stuff and some of the ideas from the new stuff, and you can see that they a good group of artists coming together with a common view. that's what makes a band work. i like that. they're incredible. that's my opinion. i don't worship them and they aren't even on my top 50 list of favorite bands, but hey, they have good motivation. again, that's my opinion. later. |
The Ataris – Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A Lyrics | 22 years ago |
ok, i'm posting this for a friend, he says that a.k. also means Also Known, as in someone's pseudonym to use as a fake identity. as in, Theodore Geisel used the pseudonym Dr. Seuss, anyway, the idea is that the person had a good day, they didn't have to hide or be fake, but i kind of agree with the gun statement, the AK-47 Soviet Assault Rifle was also just called an a.k., but i guess the song could go either way as the gun or the pseudonym thing |
