Serpentine Lyrics

My lungs stone and my days all serpentine
The tight tightness in my chest rest and subsides
In one dull dawn with a hum that split its length
Does my name sting your tongue now does it babe
Your thin frame has set my eyes to fray
On our dim stretch of this street, how it aches
For every gray and sad hemmed heart to coil
And our frail eyes and their whites to finally toll
Now one brash phrase could crush this fragile day
As my thoughts swirl in some shrill sad cannonade
The one such spur that caused my throat to creak
The one dull dawn I’ve sentenced to repeat

okay. sars, really? ...in my chest rests and then subsides.

also, the 'i've since sensed to repeat' should be 'i've sentenced to repeat.'

the 'taut to coil' part is wrong too but i can't figure out what he's saying.

From what I can tell the third line in the second verse is "For every grey and sad, hemmed heart to coil."

Here is my interpretation of what his song means, maybe right, maybe wrong.

My lungs stone and my days all serpentine He is having a hard time breathing, because he has taken pills, and his days are unraveling, with no purpose.

The tight tightness in my chest rest and subsides The pills kick in, He finally dies.

In one dull dawn with a hum that split its length They are digging his grave, in it's length.

Does my name sting your tongue now does it babe. Now that he is dead, he hopes she feels guilty for rejecting him, and driving him to kill himself.

Your thin frame has set my eyes to fray He loves her, but he is also pained by her, because she will not commit to him.

On our dim stretch of this street, how it aches He aches for her, but she has spurned him, and turned his soul away, so he feels he must kill himself to get her attention.

For every gray and sad hemmed heart to coil He wants her bad, and is ready to strike, but she has killed his heart by rejecting him, so he acts.

And our frail eyes and their whites to finally toll We are so frail, that sometimes we cannot handle the rejection, and the final toll is death.

Now one brash phrase could crush this fragile day He is frightened to say the wrong thing to her, and ruin his only chance with her.

As my thoughts swirl in some shrill sad cannonade He knows what he wants to say, but he cannot find the words to tell her.

The one such spur that caused my throat to creak He freezes up, he has no words, his love is lost, she rejects him completely.

The one dull dawn I’ve sentenced to repeat He is totally rejected, and all of his worst nightmares come true, he is a complete failure, and he kills himself.

Such a beautiful song, I just heard it once, and I'm in love with it. I sure wish I knew what it was about! Any ideas out there? Even without a clue I feel like he's describing how I feel sometimes, luckily not today. :) I thought the first verse it sounded like person singing it has died, but it could just be metaphors.

A long stone and my day's all serpentine (long stone-gravestone?) (serpentine shadows on the graveyard at the end of the day?)

The tired tarnish in my chest rests sense of SARS (he died of SARS?)

And one dull dawn where they hum that splits its length (beautiful line...what is the loud humming noise in the morning at the cemetary? machines for digging?

Does my name sting your tongue? Now does it babe? (when she remembers feels guilty?)

But then the 2nd and 3rd don't seem to go with that idea...so it's probably something else. The lyrics are so amazing.

Lyrics correction, as far as my ears hear i:

"One brash phrase could crush this fragile day as my thoughts swirl in some shrill, sad cannonade."

Here are my line guesses -- it's good to hear his articulations on the official music video of his on youtube. I'll post just the lines I fix.

stanza 1, line 1 My lone stone in my day's all serpentine stanza 1, line 2 The tired tiredness in my chest rests and subsides stanza 2, line 1 Now your thin frame has set my eyes to fray stanza 2, line 2 On our dim stretch of this street, how it aches stanza 2, line 3 for every gray and sad [impart to coil] (possibly)

I agree.

(Line by line) 1st Verse 1st- His day was "serpentine" so snake like? Must have gone by slowly or something. 2nd- Tarnish - lack of luster and SARS - respiratory desease and symptoms include shortness is breath, so he was having trouble breathing, and in my opinion not for medical reasons. 3rd- Dull dawn suggests a boring night, but I dont understand the phrase " hum that splits its length" 4th- Pretty much says "Does it hurt to speak of me?" in my opinion.

2nd Verse 1st- "Your beautiful" 2nd- Maybe it's talking about his and the girls(I'm assuming it's about a girl) house and that it's lonely 3rd- His unhappy feelings "coil" - to move in a winding course 4th- This line is weird, maybe "there" should me "their, but I dont know, I think it's just him and the girl finally talking, especially because of the next verse.

3rd Verse: 1st- He's being careful about what he says. 2nd- He's having a hard time thinking, and from the sound of it, is light-headed 3rd- He got nervous, so his voice cracked? 4th- It becomes another boring night.

There is basically one main version of this song going around the web that is wrong. If you watch the live offical video on YouTube you can see his mouth form the words. Here's a much closer version of his lyrics:

Mile long stone and my day’s all serpentine (walking down some stone or concrete, winding path) The taught tiredness in my chest rests sense of SARS (his chest is tight and tired making him feel like he's got pneumonia) And one dull dawn where they hum that splits its length Does my name sting your tongue? Now does it babe?

Now your thin frame has set my eyes to fray (he's looking around for a girl) On our dim stretch of this street, how it aches For every grey and sad and heart to coil And our frail eyes and their watch to finally talk (he really wants to see/talk to her)

Now one brash phrase could crush this fragile day As my thoughts swirl in some shrill sad cannonade And one such spur that caused my throat to creak The one dull dawn that I’m sentenced to repeat (a sad day he's sentenced to repeat in his mind or by repeating some mistake)
