| Rearview Mirror – Dead Air Lyrics | 23 years ago |

It's about someone who's decided to kill themself... They've decided the world's nothing-- nothing matters anymore... They've tried to change and find compassion in something, but only found pain and struggle that meant nothing in the end. The world crumbled the minute they decided to end their life, and you can't change your mind tomorrow... Your soul's already broken, and you can't hide the pieces because you've left it all behind and everyone can see that. This is by far, one of their best songs... |

| Cold – Ugly Lyrics | 23 years ago |

I'm never any good at understanding the "messages" in songs... but this is one of my favourite songs on self-titled so... (For me) I think it's the whole "I don't belong" thing... sort of... It's hating the world, because we all strive for beauty and charm and perfection, and we can't always have it. We see ourselves as ugly, making the world appear ugly, too... We all strive for something better -- we all want to change ourselves so we can be more accepted, and it's more than hard to change. In reality, we don't need to change. "Why can't you look..." Basically... Why do I feel so much pain because of you... always trying to meet expectations that aren't... possible... You try to appear beautiful to the world, but you only become more ugly and disgusted with yourself. The truth is ugly -- you've become ugly because your beauty wasn't enough to satisfy the...ugly world... But your beauty was more than enough to become everything... I guess, I'd say, beauty comes from pain... and this song obviously shows that... His pain brought out a beautiful song... Yeah, that sounded stupid. |

| Thursday – Mass As Shadows Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
I blew out my speakers trying to figure this out. And yeah, some of it doesn't make sense, but I don't think it's supposed to. . . It's probably wrong anyway. You know it sounds better in the long run, where your words and symbols stack up into the night. Hands are broken, folded like a steeple of my own symbol. The song is the same, A simple word transcribed to hold your faith. (ooh your faith.) We mass as shadows, light as dust silent to further the days Hold your frown. . . I know it sounds better, but there's only so many things I want. So we read between the lines, the song is the same as every sun. Touched every sunrise on your face, that reminds us that spring will kill summer nights to get through. The winter days, swaying with daylight away from harm All alone, where I, I rome. . . When you can't sing, you're on your own. When you can't sing, on your own. When you don't have, a thing to believe in. When you will find, you have something that's grey but black. (Not sure about that 'black' part. . . sounds like brown to me. . . but hay, what do I know.) |

| Thursday – Understanding In A Car Crash Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
“(Understanding In A Car Crash is)About a friend of mine. From meeting her one day she got in a car accident on her way home and she died. I don’t know," said 22-year-old vocalist Geoff Rickly. "I’ve found that the most disturbing thing about having a friend pass away is the details of it. The details you would never even think about. I was driving home that night before I knew she was in a car accident and I saw the accident. I was thinking about that and all the times I had driven with her in that car so it was a kind of a compositive memory.” That's what the song means to the person who wrote it... |
