Her Space Holiday – The Great Parade Lyrics 14 years ago
I absolutely agree with the Beatles reference. If you listen to both songs, the phrases match up:

Here comes your son, Here comes the sun,
Here comes your son, Here comes the sun,
He isn't all right. I say, it's all right.

Additionally, after the first time saying "Here comes the/your sun/son", it's immediately followed by a background vocal going "dudu dudu" in the same tune.

It's very symbolic, especially the differences in the last lines. In the Beatles song, the chorus is meant to be optimistic and referencing the end of winter. But the HSH song has the last line saying the exact opposite, implying that winter is only beginning for the young man as he comes to grips with his mother's death. He is being prematurely forced into maturity, and it might end up killing him if he doesn't let go of his childish ideas (going to the bottom of the ocean?!) in time. Molly sees this and attempts to dissuade him, but we'll never really know if he decided to accept his father's explanation as the truth. The chorus (here comes your son, he isn't alright) seems to imply that he never truly recovers from his loss.

Kanye West – Champion Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is a glorious song! I can imagine this being sung at a graduation.

There is one error in the lyrics. In verse 2 line 8, it should say "They got the drop outs keepin' kids in school".

This album gives me hope for REAL hiphop actually hitting the mainstream.

Her Space Holiday – Key Stroke Lyrics 18 years ago
Just heard this song for the first time. I love the subtle, robotic, creepiness of it and how it still remains soothing.

...

I'm comparing this song to the hum of powerlines and electrical generators right now.

Hurricane Chris – A Bay Bay Lyrics 18 years ago
I hate this song. I love hiphop, and to say this is hiphop is an insult to the genre and to black ppl everywhere.

Half Metal Jacket: You're right about its being a referral to his DJ (DJ HollyHood Bay Bay). But I believe that although he references that, most of the populace will use it as a cat call. I doubt the common folk actually know who he's referring to.

YouKnowMysteez: I agree. Kweli and Common are amazing. You should be on the lookout for Ky-Mani Marley's new album. You might like it.

DitzyMe: HipHop isn't dead. Like I said this isn't hiphop, this is pop. Manufactured cheap crap made for the populace to consume. It's like comparing WalMart to Dillards. Just take a look at how long this song lasts before someone just as simple and idiotic takes it's place ("My lip gloss be cool...My lip gloss be popping"??!!).

Talib Kweli – Get By Lyrics 18 years ago
Talib Kweli is amazing, as most ppl who post here agree.

What I think about when I hear this song is the struggle that those in the lower class go through everyday, and what they do to compensate for it. Some of us let the system break us, and fall into our stereotype. Sadly, that's too many of us.

It's also sad that channels like BET and MTV glorify this destructive lifestyle of getting drunk and prison tats. Or they make is seem like the ultimate goal in life is to get ice, cars, and booty shaking girls that seem to only know how to dance (can you call that "dancing"?!). The industry just pumps out new rappers that fit this mold everyday, until the media is saturated w/ the crunk lifestyle and bling bling.

I guess that's what he means by "attack of the clones"...

Straylight Run – Sympathy For The Martyr Lyrics 18 years ago
This is so def about TaKiNg BaCk SuNdAy!!!!!111one!!!

I mean look at all the similarities!!! In both there is a guy singing!!!! and the ppl in both bands know each othr!!!! and both use instruments!!!! and some of the words are similar!!!!

Yeah...obviously.

I'm pretty sick and tired of everyone thinking that all of SLR's songs are about TBS. I'm pretty sure that SLR has had other things happen in their lives other than being in Taking Back Sunday (which, btw, after they lost John has become sub-par and mainstream at best).

Meaning:
Reading the first two verses, it seems as if it's looking through the eyes of a masochistic/pessimistic individual who believes everyone is out to get him. Pathetic emo-scene kid for example (but not strictly!).

The next line (chorus) is about how he 'wants' the world to treat him like a martyr, because all he really wants is just sympathy and attention. He wants it all.

Starting with "A larger list of problems..." is SLR's response to his so called agony, and how most of his problems originate from his own attitudes and actions. He being masochistic simply for the attention, like many martyr's do.

I love this song, since it helps sum up my feelings towards masochism. I only believe in masochism if it's a form that will make you stronger of your own accord. This is probably why I hate emo-scene kids so damn much....they just want the attention. Their lives are great, except for the occasional grounding by their parents because of staying out past 9pm skateboarding. These type of ppl disgust, because they strive to take the attention and compete with ppl who have genuine problems, instead of helping out.

Gym Class Heroes – Viva La White Girl Lyrics 19 years ago
"white girl so fine" == finely and freshly cut cocaine
"kiss the mirrors" == kiss it after you do coke, since most ppl look in it anywayz to get rid of any res, and then kiss for luck
"makes your lips numb" == o most definitely. if you've ever rubbed res on ur gums and lips, u know the numbing sensation he talks about. suprised he didn't mention the nasty ass "drips" that u get, but i guess that's not as glamourous!

This song does reference coke, that much is obvious. But it IS most definitely a metaphor for the dark side of music. You can just imagine a sleazy music agent singing this stuff to some innocent new star, and then corrupting the hell out of her.

Fort Minor – Remember The Name Lyrics 19 years ago
The main reason they're refering to themselves in third person is definitely psychological and very well thought out. You see, as an audience member, hearing the word "I" immediately separates you from the artist, whereas hearing the word "he" leaves it open to suggest they can be singing about anyone, maybe themselves in third person, maybe some artist who they now personally, maybe even you. In depersonifies the subject, allowing the listener to fill in thier mind who "he" is. Fort Minor is singing not only about themselves, but anyone who strives to reach the top like them. It's not arrogance. It's intelligence and awareness of what the audience thinks about during a song.

Mindless Self Indulgence – Panty Shot Lyrics 19 years ago
I hate this country. A country can't call itself free if a man can't share his experienced, worldly, mature love with a woman, especially if that woman is just a 5 yr old who only needs someone (like me) to guide her. This is like the anthem for every restricted, straight, american male out there, and if they weren't gonna kick me outta this childrens library computer lab in a few seconds, I'd type more.

Her Space Holiday – The Past Presents The Future Lyrics 19 years ago
Such an amazing song to end an amazing album!

I think this song is about how we let our past dictate what our future is going to be like, and how we should learn to let it go and start acting how we want to act NOW. For example, in the third verse, he talks about his enemies. In it he feels like "yeah, we've had problems in the past, but I'm over that, lets be ok again." Things happened in the past, and that's where they should stay, don't let those memories and actions destroy your future or make u ignore the present.

haha, Rachondaloose, ur just an hsh freak and a hyper one at that!

I love this song, because it seems to say to me, we're on a new verge of human sexuality, and these people aren't just strange, wierd, or singled out any more...they're AMERICANS. We're all going thru this, and we're going to have to learn to accept others in order just to accept ourselves.

acousticlilly,
I'm a guy, and I am in COMPLETE agreement with you! Come on people! This is one of my favorites off the new album! I've definitely been in this situation before, and I can understand the pain the guy must be feeling that he just can't seem to make this girl as happy as she deserves to be, simply because she won't give him the chance :(.

Very emotional song. These types of dreams, btw, are prolly the best to have, until u wake up :(.

A Perfect Circle – What's Going On? Lyrics 21 years ago
I didn't think this song fit in w/ the rest of the album either. It wasn't as powerful and probably cuz Maynard didn't write it. 13th step was extremely good on its own, but this album also has tracks that are just as great.

n3m3s1s - I agree w/ you how you say it's more tool than apc.
sonne_mond - I like your comment because it cleared up some issues w/ Pet.

I think that the main thing in both songs is something that has control over us trying to make our choices. Both controllers believe they are doing this for the best of us, but both are wrong. I doubt this song is about Devo, but mostly because I don't believe that maynard sings about specific objects or events. He sings about issues and ideas. That is why the idea in this song is about another controlling you. Besides, if he sang about Devo, why would he have to save Devo from himself?

p.s. I hear porn in the background too. If it was fighting or crying, why is the same grunt so repititious? Plus there is the sound of that guy each time the girl grunts.

A Perfect Circle – The Noose Lyrics 21 years ago
I believe that a poet (such as maynard) is the same as all of us fans. You can interpret the song like this:

"Oh great, you're so much better now. I'm soooo glad for you...NOT! Oh, you think that just cause you found mercy in god or that you've stopped drinking or beating your wife that everything is better!? Are you that fucking selfish!? Not everything is about how fucking well you're getting, or how shitty of a life you got yourself out of. You hurt someone! THEY will never be the same because of YOU! So fucking what if you're better now!? How will you ever make up for it!?"

These are the words that can burst out of just anyone's lips, but I doubt it would sell a record and reach the ears and hearts of millions. A Perfect Circle is different from the rest of us in the way that they can convey the messege rhythmically beautiful so as to catch your ears, purposefully vague so as to not scare you away when first listened to, yet easy to interpret and apply to one's own life if you feel the urge to. Then the complete package of a song has also grasped our heart, as has a part of the lives of the ones in APC.

Weezer – Island In The Sun Lyrics 23 years ago
It's actually a good choice for the Olsen twin movie. A place where they're free to do as they please. A paradice for your body and mind. Compared to the songs used in other movies, this one actually fits. Most movies have songs that have cool tunes in it. This one uses it for the words. For example, Mirror Mirror by Rah Digga was featured in the movie 13 ghosts. The song is about a girl growing up. Yet this song and only one other (Excess - Tricky) made it into the creds. It was bcuz of the chorus. And that was it. Nothing else about the song matched the movie. As for what the song means, well i think it's actually a PROMISE! It's a promise of a better life (in my opinion, heaven) and that we need to keep our lives intact to reach that goal, cuz there'll never be something like that again. For more questions, email me at ROGUECENTURY@HOTMAIL.COM. tell me ur from songmeanings if u do.

Great song. What i really like is the chorus. He's saying I'm sorry, but i just have to tell it like it is. How will his mom react to that? She can't! And that's the worse diss of his momma yet. When she can't retaliate, she's done for...

Eminem – Square Dance Lyrics 23 years ago
and in the chorus, it's not "don't have a plan now" it's "we'll have a good ol' time". Also I think this isn't a song about returning to rap, it's a song over who is it that really controls us. He even says he has some control over us cuz of his money. See he's saying be careful and think for urself...
