Guns N' Roses – Mr. Brownstone Lyrics 18 years ago
Wow, thanks for the clarification from the comments. I was thinking the same thing about the symbolism, but had no idea Axl was not a user. I wonder why they don't have the last lines of the song on this page...???

Dave Matthews – Save Me Lyrics 19 years ago
First of all, I can't believe NO ONE has commented on this yet!!! Anyway, ... when Dave was on a program, right when this came out, he said it was about a conversation between Jesus and the Devil. But then he said that it is what you want it to mean to you.

I gotta say, I love DMB and his solo effort was great, but I don't listen to this particular song. I'm not judging him or anyone else, but to me it sounds sacreligious. And I'm a Christian. I feel somewhat "uncomfortable" listening to it. (Despite it's great sound). Very interested in your thoughts!!!

Jack Johnson – The News Lyrics 21 years ago
What with the word "diegetic"? That's not a word, is it ? Or is it spelled incorrectly. Aside from that, this song is really touching and has a simply stated profound meaning.

Sting – Fields of Gold Lyrics 21 years ago
Wow, Whatstheword, what meaning you put behind the lyrics! You sound like a poet critic. :) I love the melody placed behind this song. If I just read the lyrics first, I would say that the writer has an unhealthy obsession with barley. J/k. I didn't know it was a remake, but he made it well.

Dave Matthews Band – Big Eyed Fish (Busted Stuff version) Lyrics 21 years ago
I haven't heard the original, but I love the way it's sung and the words themselves. I would probably love it the other way too, but most of the time, I'm partial to how I hear a song the first time. And I don't like to hear cursing in my lyrics. There are better words and ways to express passion in a song.

Seal – Crazy Lyrics 21 years ago
Ok, ok, that mushy stuff having been said, what's it about? It sounds like drugs to me. Maybe he cut that out of his life when he cut his locks? Idunno. Sounds cool tho'. . . as well as the rest of the album.

Elton John – Crocodile Rock Lyrics 21 years ago
Yeah, Tiny Dancer is great! This song is so "nastalgic". Reminds me (not that I lived in that era) when girls wore Buster Browns and had poodles on their skirts and boys wore a lot of mouse in their hair (hm..they still do that tho' ..lol). He's got so much energy. But this song has a slightly sad twist to it. "the rock just died". No, Elton, it's still here, just different.

Hall and Oates – Maneater Lyrics 21 years ago
Dang! I can't believe there are only TWO Hall and Oates songs. I'll have to remedy that fa' sho'. Anyway, this song works both ways fellas!

Genesis – Silver Rainbow Lyrics 21 years ago
And it's Silver RAINBOW...not box...anyway, this song is pretty cool, so eighties-ish. It's about how you know your in love b/c you ignore e'thing else. And if you're watching the time ..."if you're walking home beside her
and you know what time it is
and if you avoid the puddles in your way
you haven't been there either"...then you're not in true love, but concerned w/outside things.

Nice cover of Cyndi Lauper's original w/ the delightful Kenneth "Baby Face" Edmonds in the background.

Phil Collins – In The Air Tonight Lyrics 21 years ago
I can't believe you're still debating this one. Please. Listen. He did NOT see someone drown. He did NOT kill someone in an alleyway...sheesh. It's just like the whole Kurt Cobain thing, which I have no comment on btw. I'm sure you all have heard of symbolism? Yeah? Ok. Apply that to this song. Like when Bono says, "The heart is a bloom, shoots up through the stony ground" (in Beautiful Day), that doesn't mean that your heart comes out of a pile of dirt and blossoms. Right? Right. Ask your English teacher, please.

LOLOLOLOL!!! That's SO hilarious especially since I just tuaght one of my (older) brothers the dance to that song. They MADE us learn it in Middle School.

U2 – Beautiful Day Lyrics 21 years ago
I love the way this song starts out in Bono's semi-baratone voice, "the heart is a bloom". I've always liked his poetic lyrics. I'm sorry it took me a while to catch up w/their music. Then, the guitars strike and the enthusiastic chorus begins, telling us not to let the day or life, for that matter, get away from us. As everyone else already chimed, encouraging.

Genesis – Abacab Lyrics 21 years ago
Someone, help me out. Is Abacab a code name for something/someone? It seems like it could be the intuition that a person gets but doesn't understand, like when a person gets the feeling that they're not being told the truth. "If you're wrapping up the world
'Cos you've taken someone elses girl,
When they turn on the pillow,
Even when they answer the telephone,
Don't you think that by now..."
But I'm so not sure.

Genesis – Way Of The World Lyrics 21 years ago
I appreciate the fact that they care about the world, it seems. And this is almost like a sarcastic view of the way things are in this world. "As if we'll ever get rid of these issues!" so to speak. I'm pretty sure that Phil and the gang don't think that the world will always be like this. I don't.
"we all know whatever they say, time is on our side" is just like some in the world saying that we have 'all the time in the world' to fix or solve problems, like pollution, economic issues, crime, yada, yada, yada.
Good song. Sometimes brings tears to my eyes.

Really? I always thought it was Z. You know how Z is!

But for real... is this just a filler ditty? Or is there some history to this most distinguished melody?

Genesis – Taking It All Too Hard Lyrics 21 years ago
For the longest I thought Phil was saying either "heart" or "hard" but not both. I love that both of them fit. I can relate to this song a lil' bit b/c I was in a relationship that kept starting and stopping and starting again. It's a relief that it has stopped for good and him and I are just long distance friends. Phil's saying that he doesn't want the girl to take it too hard and not to take it to heart, or be devastated.

Genesis – That's All Lyrics 21 years ago
Oh man, this is one of Genesis' best. I like the video and how they're dressed in rags playin' in the ally. But I haven't seen it in ages! There needs to be an 80's video station or marathon or somethin...but, oh yeah, I don't have cable. Anyway, one word............classic.

Genesis – I Can't Dance Lyrics 21 years ago
He was going to call this song "Blue Jeans" and couldn't find words to the chorus, just the background beat. Then they gradually came up with this and it stuck. Good choice though. Blue Jeans belongs to a commercial or something.

Genesis – Home By The Sea Lyrics 21 years ago
OH my goodness! It's much clearer now. It reminds me of Take Me Home b/c the meaning of it according to Phil on Storytellers years ago. (See my posting) That makes sense, but I'd like to do something a little better. A friend of my father's got me in touch with his PA, with whom I'm still in touch with. So I'll see what she has to say...
Anyway, that sounds like what it could be! I sometimes thought it was about a person lost at sea who found a mysterious or something. Whatever.
Thanks for your take on it.

Genesis – Dodo/Lurker Lyrics 21 years ago
Hey! someone give me insight if ya have it. I've been listening to this song for a while and still am not fully clear. All I can perceive is that life is short and runs in a cycle: ...snowman.
Where does he go, what does he do?
Does he meet with the mole, the stream, the cloud
And end up at the bottom of the sea.

Then he says: Vacuum coming for the bright and the brute.

But that riddle at the bottom totally baffles me. Any info? Any insight? Any CLUE???

Creed – Never Die Lyrics 21 years ago
It has a somewhat spiritual tone to it, which is not odd for Scott Stapp. "If you drink the water, your youth will never fade," which reminds me of what the Bible says Jesus told the Samaritan woman at the well...water of everlasting life. It's a great song, either way, b/c we don't want to lose our youthfulness either. That way, we'll always 'feel' young at heart.

Phil Collins – Don't Lose My Number Lyrics 21 years ago
Hm, never thought about it in that way. It seems like a close friend is trying to bring a young boy, going astray, back to reality or to doing right. And the older friend says "don't lose my number" to let the boy know that, even if he does wrong, he's there for him to call on.

Phil Collins – Take Me Home Lyrics 21 years ago
Christina78, I hope you still check up on the site b/c Phil is one of my favorites and he explained this song on Storytellers years ago. It's about a person in an insane asylum - There's no point escaping, I don't worry anymore...I've been a prisoner all my life... They don't think that I listen, Oh but I know who they are...
He said it was kinda dark when he began talking about it. I think that's pretty much all he said. But the song is still great after all these years!
