A Perfect Circle – Orestes Lyrics 22 years ago
Swann, I read your explanation to the song and you must sure put a lot of thought into this song. Your explanation is so complicated and seems so intelligent. I'm still trying to fathom everything you just said. But anyway I congratulate you on finding a new meaning behind one of the best songs ever created. It deals a lot with self-discovery and the feeling of a present eternity. That's what I get from your post though I know you mean a whole lot more.

That is a real interesting comment Azrael 85 and I agree. We always blame God for our problems instead of ourselves. It's time for people in the world today to take responsibility for their actions!

Radiohead – Life in a Glasshouse Lyrics 22 years ago
This song is just so amazing! I love this song. I think this song is about always being and tense and suspicious, when you feel you have no privacy and you suspect things of even the nicest people. When you think everyone has evil intentions. When you're always afraid to let down your guard because someone might want to take advantage of you. I just love that last line: "But someone's listenin' in". It gives me goosebumps every time! Great way to end a CD!

Radiohead – Morning Bell/Amnesiac Lyrics 22 years ago
At first look, it seems to be about amnesia walking the boundary lines of paranoia but if you look deeper, it seems to be about divorce. When the morning bell goes off and you turn the lights on and you want out of marriage. She can keep the furniture and the pain you give to her too. "Coming down the chimney" talking about Santa which really means she can keep the lies you fed her and the kids can too. Where'd you park the car? Clothes being packed after being laid on the furniture so you might as well just leave already. The fire drill going around and around because divorce can feel unsettling and you don't care if it divides your kids between two parents because you just want out. To be released.

Radiohead – Pyramid Song Lyrics 22 years ago
I think this song is about life in general:

"Jumped in the river, what did I see?"
The river represents life and when you jumped in it, that's when you're born.

"Black-eyed angels swam with me"
The black-eyed angels represent demons and/or hardships. Life is full of both.

"A moon full of stars and astral cars" The moon and stars are objects of inspiration and astral cars is how the imagination interprets them. The astral cars could be planets. Anyway, it says inspiration can be found in life and in the stars above our heads.

"And all the things I used to see"
There was more inspiration in the past than there currently is.

"All my lovers were there with me"
Love can also be found in life.

"All my past and future"
Life holds both your past and future and everything in between.

"And we all went to Heaven in a little row boat"
In the end, we'll all go to Heaven when we die.

"There was nothin' to fear and nothin' to doubt"
Heaven will be perfect and reliable.

This song brings tears to my eyes. Life captured in eight lines of pure poetry. Just amazing.

A Perfect Circle – Magdalena Lyrics 22 years ago
Hey guys! I think I've found something here! I was just watching the interview with Maynard and Billy on the APC official website and I noticed something Maynard said. When being asked about his feelings about people getting bottleg copies of the cd off the net or downloading it off of Napster and stuff like that, he said something like "Those people are thieves and it's just wrong. For a band that's just starting off, you need to sell like half a million records just to get everything paid off. People don't know how tough it is for bands. The money comes back slowly. It comes a dollar at a time." This probably wasn't exactly what he said, I'm just paraphrasing but I know he said the last part: It comes back a dollar at a time. Maybe he's talking about something along the same lines in this song. Maybe Magdalena is in fact a metaphor for something else . . . maybe the art of their music. That could work: he could be saying he's overcome by the beauty of the music in the first verse. Then: so pure, so rare to witness such a beautiful piece of music that he's lost his self-control and will spend the little money he makes from making cds to make more of that beautiful music. He'd sell his soul in the writings he puts in his music just to get another taste of it. He was a witness to that beautiful music, the art long forgotten. So beautiful that he's driven to it like some sort of black Madonna.

Or. . . .

It could be from the perspective of a fan who's addicted to APC's music and would spend all their money, spend their life obsessing away over the art of their music.

Well, that's a possible theory. Just giving something to you guys to think about.

~NiGHTSFTP~, I'm sorry you feel the way but there really is no reason to lash out at people's beliefs like that. There is really no point and only causes only harm to people which is not a good thing. I'm advising you for future purposes as a friend that whenever you disagree with someone, keep it to yourself or so say so kindly.

These comments are real interesting. I can see why many are offended and many like this song. I like the music and the lyrics do offend me because I'm Christian but I think we got to just accept the point Maynard's trying to get across whether he's talking about the real Christian God or if it's a metaphor for something else. We don't have to agree with everything we listen to.

This song is so cool. Probably one of my favorites on Lateralus alongside The Patient and Lateralus. It's pretty straightforward except for the whole saturn thing I don't really get, but from what you guys are saying about, it sounds pretty cool. It's about holding on to a grudge and with it, it brings power, but you must choose to let it go along with the benefits that came with it and return to your humble state. One of the coolest songs on Lateralus! Go Tool!

A Perfect Circle – 3 Libras Lyrics 22 years ago
That's very interesting, as I've stated before, the object of the song doesn't necessarily have to be a girl. It could show how someone has become bitter to God because they think he has abandoned them or he must be ruthless if he let's us all suffer. That's a very interesting concept I didn't think about before. But this definately wouldn't be my personal translation of the song. I have a good relationship with God. Keep all the new ideas coming!

Yes, I think one of the most curious parts of this song is the title: 3 Libras. It sounds so majestic in a way. Like you said, these 3 Libras could either be real or fictional. I think the scales part is really interesting. I've never heard that one before. I've always assumed the 3 Libras were people. But 3 scales. Maybe it means to be judged by 3 different people prematurely. Turned down before you even had a chance. It all fits in with the theme of being overlooked. This is all very interesting. . . .

Be careful not to send it more than once :) Yes, I know, it's about being overlooked. Maynard explains it a little if you read about the mountain gorilla on the APC site. Being overlooked is the main meaning but the cool thing about APC songs is that there are way more than one meanings to every one of the songs and what's more important than what it actually means is what it means to you. That's what's most important.

I've looked everywhere in the Bible where it mentions Mary Magdalene and not ever does it mention anything or give any sign or clue of Jesus coming on to her. Why would he? Are you sure you don't have this mixed up with something else? I think I've heard of other religons where the believe something like that about Jesus and Mary Magdalene but as far as Christianity and the Bible go, Jesus never came on to any one.

A Perfect Circle – 3 Libras Lyrics 22 years ago
Hi. I know this is probably not what the song meant when Maynard wrote it but this is what it means to me. Personally it's about me, when I go through these moments that just seem to -- speak to my soul and I wonder if anyone else has ever felt the same way. Yeah, I know it sounds kinda strange. But what I mean is when you're inspired just by the common things in life. When you look at a tree and the sky and the stars and appreciate it and understand them for what they are. It goes deeper. You have a bond with your surroundings. These rare, magical moments that you should cherish and make it last as long as you can before life hits you in the head and tells you to move on. The song is in the perspective of the object of poetry (could be a sun rise or a garden or the mountain gorilla Maynard was talking about when he posted a response to the asking of the meaning of the song), it just wants to be noticed for its natural beauty. In the song it throws someone the obvious (these moments I?ve just described: the natural beauty, the poetry that exists in things in life) and the whole time it was hiding behind their back, all they had to was discover it. But the object of poetry was just like any other ordinary thing in their recollection. It held no meaning for them. It was just one of a million like it. But it's hard for it not to be let down and disappointed that they couldn't see it's beauty, it?s significance. Hard for it not to feel passed over. But when it looks more closely at this person, it knows they're just an empty-minded, oblivious fool. It knows they will never see it for its beauty. But even still, it hopes somehow it will reach them. It wants to see if there's more to them then an empty mind and heart and soul. But do people like them notice? Fallen angels, tragedies, people who've been hurt in life and have had their hearts hardened? Could their eyes be cleansed and be able to find joy in something so innocent? But maybe it was expecting too much from someone who's been wounded, hurt, and pained too many times in life. But still, it can't help but reach out to them, to help them and reawaken them because it sees them for who they are. But oh well. Apparently they can't be reawakened. They still pass you by and they'll never know what it's like to stop and smell the roses. They don't see it. They'll never see it. Never see it at all. . . .

I got a little something to tell you all. The line "Come into my misery" which you've been raving about is really "Hopin' to reconnect with you" Turn the volume up high and you can hear "Hopin' to" not "Come into". They sound very much alike just keep an ear open for the "H" sound at the beginning instead of "C". Just wanted to let you know so you don't go off thinking it says one thing when it really says another. This song is so cool. Forgiveness is definately the dominant theme here and there's something about this song that just gives me goosebumps. Especially the end where Maynard says "Hopin' to reconnect with you" So chilling!

Pretty straight forward. When you feel like you could make a difference in someone's life but no matter how hard you try, it's futile. That person is so stubborn, it'll take a miracle to wake them up. Typically like Maynard, this song could pertain to so many things. Getting your girlfriend to wake up in a relationship it can mean just about anything. Even trying to convert someone.

Out of all the songs this is probably the hardest to understand. To be honest, I had no clue what this song was about until I got on here and read these posts. It's like when a camera lens is out of focus and all of a sudden it comes clear. It makes a lot more sense now. It has a very prominent theme of nature. The song is about someone in a vulnerable and terrified position and the only way to break free is to stand up and roar. Let yourself be heard.

Basically it means what Iced Pee says. The cd's over or just getting sick of going over the same things over and over again. The CD may be over once you finish with this song, but with their next cd to come out soon, this is just the beginning of some of the most beautiful inspirational music ever to be heard on this great ball floating in space we like to call the earth. This is definately one of those songs that you just can't seem to get of your head. It's amazing how it just flows on and on, unrestricted by annoying things called lyrics formulas. So many other bands are bound by this wondering whether it should be verse verse chorus verse chorus or verse chorus verse chorus bridge chorus or chorus verse chorus verse guitar solo chorus, etc. Maynard just knows when and how to say what he wants to. Lyrics are brilliant. I am a lyricist and a poet and the one person I strive to write like the most is Maynard. One of the best lyricists and singers on the earth. He's been blessed twice in a row with two great gifts. Oh well, I'm not complaining because the fans are gifted as well with the ability to listen to some of the best music ever! Oh, can you guys explain the similarities between this song and Orestes of mythology again. It doesn't make sense to me. The song's about severing a relationship so as not to bring harm to that person but Orestes killed his mother, not sever his relationship to "Keep from killing you" as the song says.

By the way, I'm just wondering about where you guys heard about Jesus coming on to Mary Magdalene and stuff. I'm a Christian and as far as the Bible says, He never came unto her and I don't think He would. Yeah, I kinda came up with it while reading that thing on the APC website about the mountain gorilla and mixed it with what i was feeling at the time. The most probable and likely meaning to this song is probably being overlooked by someone who's been hurt too many times in the past. This song is one of the best if not THE BEST song on the whole cd.

P.S. I checked out your site, Jondude, dedicated to "Rose" and it rocks! Keep up the good work!
