Jack's Mannequin – Dark Blue Lyrics 20 years ago
this song is just perfect.

slightly reminscient of "she paints me blue" on the soco north album, something about the melody of the chorus combined with the blue reference. i think it might be on purpose.

Jewel – Little Sister Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is amazing....reading the lyrics doesn't even do her great songwriting justice - it has to be heard - the rhythm just brings out words that rhyme and it all ties together so well. I think this song has growing relevance in a country where a lot of people think that they can just do to the doctor and drugs will solve their problem, when the reality is that "We've got to start feeding our souls Not our addictions or afflictions of pain to avoid the same questions we must ask ourselves to get any answers." It's great because I think the song can relate to either people who become dependent on illegal drugs, or people who abuse prescription painkillers or antidepressants, and of course, the people who have to drink themselves to sleep every night.

Tori Amos – Ruby Through the Looking-Glass Lyrics 20 years ago
itsALLprogramMUSIC, I was wondering exactly the same thing, that's why I came to look at the lyrics here - because I've never fully understood what she meant by that line "As a man do you find, doesn't every boy smoke to cry?" I would think that maybe she is saying something about the difference between a boy and a man because why else would she say "as a man" and then "every boy" - she could have said "every one" or something but she chose boy. But smoking is something people do to relieve tension and feel better about things and crying can also do this. But of course, crying is something more associated with girls, and men have this whole idealized "being a real man" expectation. So I think she's just saying something like men smoke to relieve themselves, on a more general level, it's pointing out that men have a different way of going about doing things than women, I don't think it's completely literal.

I wonder if anyone else has a better idea, because she's never made any comments on the song specically, so it's hard to know what she meant by it unless she explained it.

Tori Amos – Mountain Lyrics 20 years ago
I think I downloaded this song by accident, but I still can't believe no one else has commented yet! When I heard it the first time I was just like wow....It's really not like any of her other songs, in my opinion, though the lyrics definetely have a Scarlet's Walk feel.

this song made me cry the first time i heard it and i barely relate to it, but i see it as being about an on and off couple who finally come back together and realize how much it means.....the music is sooo powerful, her voice shines, its amazing.
