Timbuk3 – The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades Lyrics | 7 years ago |
I have just come across a disturbing interpretation of this song. Now, you're probably wondering, "What's so disturbing about it?" It's a dire warning to people not to get into the field of nuclear sciences and going to work at nuclear power plants, because it'd make you insane. Think about it. The first lines of the song is "I study nuclear science, I love my classes, I got a crazy teacher who wears dark glasses." This sounds like a good thing, especially since the singer is saying he's doing alright, getting good grades and his future's so bright that he's gotta wear shades. The second verse of the song is him saying that he's got a job waiting for him after he graduates from school (the music video shows a picture of a nuclear power plant). Like anyone getting out of school, he's psyched about the amount of money he'd get each year and that he could buy a lot of beer to get drunk on as much as he wants. Here's where things get weird: the third verse. "Well I'm heavenly blessed and worldly wise, I'm a peeping-tom techie with x-ray eyes." Apparently, during his time working and possibly being drunk on the job, he apparently has a psychotic break and thinks he's got superpowers from working at the power plant. And here's the sad part, the first verse is repeated again, indicating that he's been forced out of the power plant and is stuck teaching nuclear science to the next generation, with the repeating of the verse being from a new student who was just as hopeful as he was, sitting in the class with a "crazy teacher who wears dark glasses", unaware of the irony (with his teacher who may have also gone insane because he had the same job). The future's so bright? More like dark.... |
The Automatic – Monster Lyrics | 8 years ago |
I think the song is about someone going insane and going on a rampage. The lines "brain fried tonight through misuse" and "without these pills you're let loose" suggests this, and that the "monster" that's coming over the hill is the person who's gone nuts. |
Eve 6 – Here's To The Night Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I actually read somewhere this song was about a one-night stand. I think that's BS. To me, I feel this song is about enjoying the moment of life while you have it, just before its gone. The kind of song you'd hear at a graduation, a song you'd hear while you're with friends, a song that you'd hear with someone you love. To paraphrase the movie "Blade Runner", moments that will be lost in time, like tears in rain. |
Joe Walsh – In The City Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I agree. The song actually best fit "The Warriors", primarily because it not only reflected on the events in the film, but it basically fits the Warriors every day lives prior to, during and after the events of the film. It's still a great song to listen to. |
Love Automatic – Nightmare Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Basically, the meaning of the song is a story of suffering a nightmare you can't wake up from. It's actually one of the kind of songs that best fits a horror movie lyrics wise. |
Graeme Revell – Fall in the light Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I believe the song is about hope. No matter if everything is going wrong, no matter how bad things are, it's always best to hope and have hope, even when "it all comes apart." |
Benny Benassi – Who's Your Daddy? Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think there's an error in the lyrics: "I want you daddy I want you mom I want you mine Cause I am yours!" The second line, I don't believe is "I want mom," I believe its "I want you more." The reason why I say this is because "more" rhymes with "yours" more than "mom" does with "yours." |
Bic Runga – Sway Lyrics | 13 years ago |
It's really easier than you guys are not realizing: It's about a girl who is in love with a boy, but doesn't know how to approach him. She keeps seeing him from a distance, she keeps bumping into him accidentally, she wants him to acknowledge her and she wants to know him. The line "I'm practicing your name so I can say it to your face" shows that no matter how many times she reminds herself of his name, when she looks at him, she freezes up. And she even feels uneasy looking at him, which is clearly seen in the line "It doesn't seem right, to look you in the eye." She wants to tell him about how in love she is with him, but she doesn't know how to approach. I'm sure there are many who have had this problem, be it approaching a beautiful girl/handsome man you've seen in a public place, or approaching your high school crush back when you were in high school. That's basically what the song is, a girl who is in love with a boy, but can find the courage to approach him, or when she does, she keeps fumbling her attempts to do so. It's not about sex, a one night stand or anything else. It's about the difficulties of trying to approach someone you've fallen in love with. |
The Rocky Horror Picture Show – I Can Make You A Man Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The song has double meaning. First off, it's an extended retelling of an advertisement for Charles Atlas' Dynamic Tension device, which was mainly shown on the back of several comic books in the 1940s on up. There were four ads, but the one the song mainly retells is the one called "The Insult that Made a Man out of Mac." The Dynamic Tension is actually mentioned in the song. The other meaning, which is more obvious, is Frank's sexual infatuation with not just bodybuilding, but his latest creation, Rocky Horror. |
The Rolling Stones – Memo From Turner Lyrics | 15 years ago |
If any of you guys pick up the movie "Performance" (1970), you get a better understanding about the song. It's about gang-related/criminal-related business. The song comes up in a "theater of the mind" scene from the film, where Mick Jaggar's character is filling in the role of Jame Fox's character's boss, performing this song. |
Audioslave – Show Me How to Live Lyrics | 16 years ago |
How about this for religious images?: The music video is compose primarily of film clips from the 1971 film "Vanishing Point". That film is known to have religious symbolism, such as Kowalski being a Christ figure or that this existance is a temporary stopping point for Kowalski, a free soul not meant for this world. There are some websites that have the analysis of the film that show these things. |
Audioslave – Show Me How to Live (Video Intro) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The opening intro is from the film "Vanishing Point", considered one of the most influential car chase/road movies. They dubbed the word "Audioslave" over "Kowalski", because in the film, Super Soul's radio station is call KOW. Of course, the radio station isn't the only thing they used from the film. |
Garbage – Milk Lyrics | 16 years ago |
To answer the question about what "I am Milk" means, maybe it's meant to symbolize emptiness. I mean, milk is white. White is often considered blankness. Blankness is another word for empitness. So, when she says, "I am milk", she means, "I am empty." The second part, "I am Red Hot Kitchen" could simply mean that she is has desire for someone. Just a thought, of course. |
Enigma – Age Of Loneliness Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song was featured in the movie "Sliver", starring Sharon Stone post-"Basic Instinct". The closing credits actually credit this song as "Age of Loneliness (Carly's Song)". The featuring of the name "Carly" leads me to believe this particular song was commissioned by the production company who made the film, seeing that Carly is the name of Ms. Stone's character in the film. |
The Trammps – Disco Inferno Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song was inspired by the 1970s disaster film, "The Towering Inferno" (the Trammps even have said that they got the idea for the song while watching the movie). |
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory – Pure Imagination Lyrics | 19 years ago |
A good song. It's meaning is clear. Being imaginative is always a great thing. |
The Postal Service – Against All Odds (Phil Collins cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
TBH, I like this version a lot better than Phil Collins version. I'll explain. Seeing that the song was for a movie called "Against All Odds", a thriller, the song sounded like it was a romantic song, therefore, one would conclude the movie was a romantic film. Though romance was a subgenre, it didn't dominate the film. But that's besides the point. The song itself, lyrically, is about a man who is hoping that his love will come back, but is hollow because of it. With the instrumental, it makes it seem that the person he is telling this to is actually believing in his words and may actually come back. I think that the Postal Service's rendering of the song is better because they fit the lyrics. When you begin, there's only one instrument that gives that hollow impression. Before we know it, it kicks into true electronica, with beat, giving the anger or passion that the narrator must be feeling. But then when the guitar comes in at the ending, we get the sense that reality is setting in and that his love may never come back, all the other instruments fade, leaving only the guitar, giving even more of a hopelessness feeling that the lyrics seem to convey. Of course, this is just my opinion. I could be wrong. I just think that this one is better. |
U2 – Love Is Blindness Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Cassandra Wilson does a beautiful jazz rendering of this song. |
Nina Simone – Sinnerman Lyrics | 19 years ago |
A few seconds of this song and a remix of this song by Felix da Housecat is featured in the movie "Cellular". |
BT – Dreaming Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Trivia: This song was featured briefly at the beginning and ending of the movie "Under Suspicion", with Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman and Monica Belluci. BT also did the score for that film. |
Wayne Wonder – No Letting Go Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Pretty much a song about how a guy is thankful for his relationship with his girlfriend. |
The Rolling Stones – Wild Horses Lyrics | 19 years ago |
For EW's "Top 50 Love Songs", this one is listed. It says that the song was written to describe the hardship of life on the road, but could easily be thought of a love song. |
Morcheeba – Trigger Hippie Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I love this song. Love it so much, I'm naming my '65 Ford Mustang after it. |
DJ Shadow – Six Days Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Actually, I think that its a song about a breakup. Think about it, for the Tuesday segment it says "You never thought we'd go to war, after all the things we saw". He's comparing war to the end of the relationship. |
Limp Bizkit – Behind Blue Eyes (The Who cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I say the "Discover L.I.M.P. Say it" is a brillant use of the Speak-N-Spell. Seriously, what other song has utilize on such old technology this this one has? Seriously, using old techinology in music is cool. Heck, a bunch of DJs use old Gameboys to make techno tracks (A whole subculture has come about with this). Besides, the music video was made for a promotion for the film "Gothika", so naturally (seeing that the film features the song) the film's leading star (Halle) was going to be in it. The reason for the kiss in the video was to convey the switching of sides. Halle begins as the doctor and Durst as the patient, but then they kiss and then she's the one in Dursts previous position. She is now "behind his eyes" so to speak, and he is in hers. That's about it. |
Manic Street Preachers – If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I came across a Manic Street Preachers website that included a track-by-track description. This song was described as "a tribute to not only to one of George Orwell's short stories, but a song about honoring the past and hope for the future." I do believe this to be true. It does seem that way to me. |
The Beatles – Strawberry Fields Forever Lyrics | 19 years ago |
TRIVIA TID BIT: Cameron Crowe stated on the DVD commentary for "Vanilla Sky" that he originally had cut a certain scene to this song involving Tom Cruise's character, but wasn't able to keep it in due to time restriction. I haven't given the details on what scene because I am not sure how many have seen the movie. |
The Beatles – Yesterday Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Due to a novel called "Vivienne" by Richard Hoyt, I began to relisten to this song, as well as "Hey Jude" by the Beatles and "Sympathy for the Devil" by the Rolling Stones. The title character plays this over a record player after saying goodbye to the man she loves. |
The Beatles – Hey Jude Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I've begun to relisten to this one, "Yesterday" and "Sympathy for the Devil" by the Rolling Stones because of a novel I've finished reading, called "Vivienne" by Richard Hoyt. The title character uses lyrics from "Hey Jude" as a message to the man she loves. |
The Mamas & the Papas – California Dreamin' Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Actually, I thought the song was about wanting to be young again. I mean, think about "All the leaves are brown and the sky is gray, I've been for a walk on a winter's day" sounds a lot like "I'm old and I know that I'm old. "I'd be safe and warm if I was in L.A., California dreamin' on such a winter's day", seems like "I was I was young again. Look at me, I'm dreaming about being young while I know I am old." The next verse as follows definately suggests this: "Stopped in to a church I passed along the way" (a funerial at a church) Well I got down on my knees and I pretend to pray (down on the knees, often considered a sign of weakness. The narrator is weak from old age and used to pretend to "pray" in order to make sure no one else knew) You know the preacher liked the cold (the preacher is used to funerials) He knows I'm gonna stay (he knows the narrator has passed from the world to never come back again) California dreamin' on such a winter's day (a wish to be young, even though the narrator is dead). |
Linkin Park – Breaking The Habit Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I know this is going to sound weird, but when I heard this song, I thought about the movies "Kill Bill" (both Vol.1 and Vol.2). I'll break it down. If you haven't seen "Kill Bill" (either or both volumes, then please do not proceed to read this). S P O I L E R W A R N I N G Memories consume Like opening the wound I'm picking me apart again You all assume I'm safe here in my room Unless I try to start again The above remind me of the scene where the Bride wakes up in the hospital room from her coma. "Memories consume like opening the wounds, they're picking me apart again" seems as literal in the turns of the character. I mean, her memories of the betrayl of the Dealy Viper Assassination Squad has consumed her to the point that it has ripped her emotionally into pieces and where vengence seems to be the only emotion that consumes her. (Bridge:) I don't want to be the one The battles always choose 'Cause inside I realize That I'm the one confused This to me reminds me of the Bride and her reaction to having to kill O-Ren, how it was difficult. Though she was friends with the people she's after, she does find it hard to kill O-Ren when it comes to it. However, after that first kill, it's easier but not as simple. (Chorus:) I don't know what's worth fighting for Or why I have to scream I don't know why I instigate And say what I don't mean I don't know how I got this way I know it's not alright So I'm breaking the habit I'm breaking the habit Tonight Pretty much reminds me of everything from when she gets the sword to starting her fight through everyone in her way just to get to Bill. She's breaking the habit of being a member of the Vipers, and becoming Vengence Incarnate. Clutching my cure I tightly lock the door I try to catch my breath again I hurt much more Than anytime before I had no options left again Reminds me of how she holds the sword in her hands after it is handed to her by Hattori Hanzo, plus how she stares at Sofie through the bathroom stall door. This also suggests that she is thinking that there is no other option to lure O-Ren out during the House of Blue Leaves sequence. (Bridge:) I dont want to be the one The battles always choose 'Cause inside I realize That I'm the one confused (Chorus:) I don't know what's worth fighting for Or why I have to scream I don't know why I instigate And say what I don't mean I don't know how I got this way I'll never be alright So, I'm breaking the habit I'm breaking the habit Tonight Same as before. (Bridge:) I'll paint it on the walls 'Cause I'm the one at fault I'll never fight again And this is how it ends When I hear the "I'll paint it on the walls", I mentally add "with blood", because that seems like what Beatrix would use. And techically, for all of the events, she was "at fault" for the El Paso Massacre. Did she truly believe that Bill wouldn't find her? And if she didn't then did she really expect a soft reaction from Bill? For the "I'll never fight again And this is how it ends", it reminds me of Bill's last steps and I think that it could easily be put in the context of the possible end she may have at the hands of Nikki Bell later on in life. [Chorus:] I don't know what's worth fighting for Or why I have to scream But now I have some clarity to show you what I mean I don't know how I got this way I'll never be alright So, I'm breaking the habit I'm breaking the habit I’m breaking the habit Tonight Same as before, this time, I actually think of the ending of "Vol. 2", the lioness and cub reunited. Okay, I admit. I'm a film geek. But I found it kinda odd that one of the animated girls in the video looked a little bit like O-Ren from the "Origin of O-Ren" anime sequence. |
The Rolling Stones – Memory Motel Lyrics | 20 years ago |
To me, it's about a musician who has fallen in love with a woman he's met one time, but is unable to forget about her, even with the trips on the roads and the hotel parties after the concerts. |
Moby – My Weakness Lyrics | 20 years ago |
After listing to the song so many times, it sounds like it is saying the following: "Deep in my weakness to wash over me." I'm not sure what it means. But its still a good song, no matter what the lyrics are. :) |
Staind – For You Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Another communication problem song by Staind. I really like it, but this song is about the lacking of communication between parents and children, and the damage that the parents cause on their children by not talking to them. |
Staind – Epiphany Lyrics | 21 years ago |
The song, to me, is about having trouble communicating with someone you love. I mean, its like you're in love with someone and you're afraid to tell them, or you can't really find the right words to say. Could be just me, though. |
Moby – Bodyrock Lyrics | 21 years ago |
This song sounds like something to most likely played during a car chase scene in a movie. I love this song, one of my favorites. :) |
Saliva – Rest In Pieces Lyrics | 21 years ago |
A great song. It rocks! |
Jennifer Lopez – Play Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Obviously, the song is about how much she likes a certain song and how it makes her feel. |
Orgy – Fiction (Dreams In Digital) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Dead- I agree with you on that. There's still one movie left. Who knows? |
Saliva – After Me Lyrics | 21 years ago |
This song is also featured at the ending credits for the video game for "The Thing", and the lyrics definately fit that game very well. |
Queen – Flash Lyrics | 21 years ago |
It's actually hard to believe that George Lucas wanted to do the "Flash Gordon" movie. Instead, it inspired him to do "Star Wars"! I kid you not! |
Queen – Who Wants To Live Forever Lyrics | 21 years ago |
It's opera-like. It's extremely beautiful. I can't think of an interpretation of it, but I hope that someone here can try. |
Geri Halliwell – Scream If You Wanna Go Faster Lyrics | 21 years ago |
A car song that reminds me of the 50s car songs! :) I love it. |
Placebo – Pure Morning Lyrics | 21 years ago |
You guys think song rocks alone, you should listen to the remix of this song (which rocks the house even more). I LOVE THIS SONG! |
Gary Jules – Mad World (Tears for Fears cover) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
This song is beautiful. |
Third Eye Blind – Jumper Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I always pictured it as a song about a friend trying to tell a pal of his to not worry about the past and that moving on is a good option. But now, with this new information, I can understand that it is an anti-suicide song. |
Moby – Natural Blues Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I actually sung this song to myself as I was walking out to the football field the day of my graduation. It was the only one I could think of that described my emotions at the time. To me, it was the ending of one chapter in my life and a beginning of another. Also, a little interesting trivia tadbit. The lyrics song in the song are actually from a 1930s recording made by some guy doing a documentary about the rough times (or something like that). It was brought up on TechTV's Audiofile, on a segment about sampling. |
Pink Floyd – High Hopes Lyrics | 21 years ago |
It's a beautiful song. One that I often catch myself listening to, and it reminds me of when I was about five or so, when I saw the video on MTV. I agree with Bourko's comment. I feel that this song does talk about growing up, and the beauty of what the past was to us as opposed to now. And when it comes to the winter of our lives, we may look back and recall about how wonderful our lives were to us. |
Pink Floyd – Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2 Lyrics | 21 years ago |
To me, it is a song that still holds a place in the heart of a rebel, or a student who is having to battle his way through the war known as high school (If you've been through high school, you know of the war I speak that many had to face day-to-day, receiving battle scars from the emotional and psychological cutdowns from fellow students if there were any). I know I may get cutdown for saying this, but I really thought the Class of '99 version of this song was good. But the Pink Floyd version still kicks butt!! |
Queensrÿche – Eyes Of A Stranger Lyrics | 21 years ago |
One of my favorite songs. |
