Why does this sound like a song where a man (Davey) is in love with someone who is keeps going back to a partner who doesn't treat them right? Hence the lyrics:
"There is no price he needn't pay. You give yourself away."
"No one's ever sent me flowers"..
"You'll be the first I leave because I'm always the first to love."
I feel like the narrator is trying to be what she wants, what she goes for but the woman denies him because she has given up on being treated right either because she feels she doesn't deserve the narrator's love or she thinks that the narrator is only being nice and deserves a better lover than her.
I get the impression that the narrator is confused by these feelings and the woman's behavior. |

My interpretation is that this is about James Hart\'s dad. Both of his parents struggled with alcohol which he concludes killed their marriage and made him more than strong in his commitment to Straight Edge. Ultimately, his dad went to Chicago and to honest, I get the impression he doesn\'t really know his dad. I may be completely missing the mark but "I think time has more than raised me." sounds like an angry kid to a parent. |

I respect the heck out of straight edge people but if you are beating and terrorizing people because they aren\'t straight edge then you are a problem. Its the asshats who go around being militant and cult-minded.... Also the view of people breaking edge is very cult-like. |

The drinking didn\'t help his condition but Jimmy didn\'t believe he would live long anyway, he stated he wouldn\'t live to 30 which he was correct on. |

I don\'t care what you apply to music as it speaks to everyone differently. I understand both perspectives but I have to agree that AFI or at least Davey is non-religious possibly agnostic. Then again, there\'s only one Davey and people apply the things closest to them to the music they like. \n\n\nNow off my soapbox, this song is FANTASTIC and beautiful. |

I still don\'t know what \'tonightless\' means but I feel it. I also still debate whether the audible breath you hear in between the first and second line is intentional or not.... Perhaps, it means something, a statement about the fragile nature of such things like love and life. Or they just ran out of time in the studio and said fuck it, it sounds alright. Lol |

This has to be a call out to Trustkill Records who screwed over a lot of bands like Bleeding Through, friends of Eighteen Visions. It is pretty much known that Eighteen Visions breaking up years ago was because of Trustkill screwing them over. Now they are back, free from the label, but they haven\'t been able to recoup what the label took from them. This song pretty much confirms what the fans always knew. |
