| NF – 10 Feet Down (feat. Ruelle) Lyrics

It sounds motivational, but at the same time it is almost like a warning for when you finally get to the top. "What goes up has to come down" sort of thing. But really I also see it like "the grass is greener on the other side" as well. You get what you want, and it's still not enough, because it's not what you need. You are trying to reach for something that isn't going to keep your cup filled. |

| NF – Lie Lyrics
|
This song finds NF addressing a girlfriend who is telling lies about him behind his back.
I heard you told your friends that I'm just not your type
If that's how you really feel, then why'd you call last night?
You say all I ever do is just control your life
But how you gonna lie like that, how you gonna lie like that?
Though the girl apparently wants the relationship to continue, NF is fed up with the false accusations and what they're doing to his reputation.
"Lie" is about an actual former girlfriend of NF but he doesn't mention her name as the rapper doesn't want to publicly embarrass the woman. NF learned from the experience and was happily married to someone else when he released the song.
NF wrote the song with:
Mike Elizondo, who is best known for his work with such rappers as Eminem, 50 Cent and Dr. Dre. The Los Angeles producer and songwriter has also worked with artists in a diverse range of other genres including Avenged Sevenfold, Regina Spektor, Maroon 5 and Carrie Underwood.
Michigan songwriter and producer Tommee Profitt, who worked on 13 of the Perception tracks. He's also remixed for such artists as Colton Dixon, and Britt Nicole, under the name PRO_FITT. |

| NF – The Search Lyrics

"The Search" finds NF opening up about the struggles inside his head.
I've been dealin' with some things like every human being
And really didn't sleep much last night
Having found commercial success with his hit single "Let You Down" and its accompanying album, NF found it to be poisonous.
Got a taste of the fame, had to pump my stomach
Throw it back up like I don't want it
NF concludes what is important is the ability to exercise self-control in order to keep himself on an even keel.
The point I'm makin' is the mind is a powerful place
And what you feed it can affect you in a powerful way
The video was shot at various locations throughout Iceland. NF won't shoot stereotypical rap music promos that involve expensive cars, pretty girls, and drugs. Instead he prefers to create clips that are visually appealing. He touches on this during this song.
Leave you deep in thought, I could never swim in the kiddie pool
Way that I been thinkin' is cinematic, it's beautiful
Man, I don't know if I'm makin' movies or music videos |

| NF – Therapy Session Lyrics

"It came from conversations with fans about depression, self harm, and other topics to which the rapper can relate. He said:
"This song is a very aggressive and blunt song, not really holding back on this one. I went from people having no idea who I was, to getting thousands of people writing me about how they relate to my pain, but with that I have also received a massive amount of hate and I'm still trying to work through how to handle that as a person and an artist.
Basically I just wanna say thank you to all the fans who told me some of their story, and thank you to all the people who pretend like they know me and judge me from some crap they heard on the internet." |

For me it sounds like the person gets everything they could ever dream of but there's still this empty hole they can't fill and it's because they aren't really "awake" enough to realize that it's about the journey not the destination. That you can't find happiness in the things you get, but recognizing the beauty in everything in your life even the challenges and obstacles we face. |

The big secret is that really it’s tune about a haircut, but at the same time “F.U.U.” is an unapologetic, no-fucks given assault on whatever’s making you MAD; be that your creepy driving instructor that keeps slapping your thigh, that dude telling you that you “better practice you’re guitar because looks fade,” or the friend that offers some condescending, slut shaming insight in the wake of sexual assault. “Somebody” explores the idea of female sexuality a step further and places it implicitly with the individual. Existence in a female body is not consent; makeup is not consent; clothing is not consent; making out with someone is not (necessarily) consent. “Somebody” is a response to the outpouring of pain, strength and solidarity during The Slut Walk in Reykjavik summer before last, the need for this dialogue globally was enforced during the resurfacing of the #metoo campaign last October. “Somebody” is a call for solidarity and for changes in the fabric of our society." |

The person sounds like they are falling apart doing everything they can to improve themselves. They are relying on the other person to stick it through with them while they try to make these changes. They are making a promise they don't know if they can keep, but they still want the other person to meet them halfway, and not leave them, even though they can't be sure they will ever get better. They are so reliant on this other person's support, but it's still not enough because they are still falling apart and feeling pretty lost. |

| Everclear – You Lyrics

Okay so I actually just wrote my interpretation above before I researched the story behind this song which was really interesting because I was pretty spot on!
"Everclear frontman Art Alexakis lived in a rough neighborhood when he was young: a Los Angeles housing project. In this song, he tells the shocking story of being beaten and raped at the projects when he was eight years old.
Alexakis never told anyone in his family about it, and carried the guilt and shame with him for most of his life. This incident was a dramatic turning point in his life, making him angry and aggressive, but also determined. "That incident opened up a large part of me that is my addictive behavior," he told us. "But at the same time, that's what I think has driven me hard in life to do a lot of the good things I've done, as well. But it's also left its damage on me: I'm f--ked up and angry. Even though I'm doing really well. But most of the time I'm doing great, but that person is still inside of me."
The "you" in this song is Alexakis' inner child. He believes that the child inside is part of every adult, and with that come the memories of any difficult experiences that child encountered. According to Alexakis, it's very important to deal with those memories in order to move on emotionally." |

| Everclear – You Lyrics

This song to me is clearly about the aftermath of abuse and how the person is dealing with it now in his adulthood. It seems that he is saying that the trauma of sexual abuse as a child is the reason he is damaged, and why he acted out all his life and has not been the nicest person. It sounds as if he is having flashbacks of his past trauma, and he can no longer stay in denial. All of this brings him closer to a truth that he has tried to keep hidden and secret for so long. It's almost like he's talking to his inner-child at points like he has to be a father figure to the child who is still trapped in time so he can heal from all of this. He may feel broken and messed up from this but he is free because he is facing it all finally. |

I see it as a rape survivor expressing their rage and pain and wanting to take revenge out on the person who did it. But it almost sounds like they travelled back in time to before it happened and that's the perspective it's coming from. Idk. That's just my take and how I see it, even though that's probably not at all what the song is about. |

"Make a Man" received critical acclaim for its intense criticism of female objectification and toxic masculinity. Källström described it as ""the story of a heterosexual female’s battle between desiring a man, whilst simultaneously finding herself having little respect for his self-important ego and misogynistic attitude towards women. She retaliates by objectifying him herself" |

It's clearly a love song it seems. The whole album so far seems to be based on relationships. In this one I feel that the person she is singing about has had trouble with relationships in the past, and she wants them to give her a chance. She seems to be picturing a life with them where they can both be happy together finally finding each other so they can both experience a joy that they will only find with each other. If only this person would open their heart to her they could make this dream a reality. |
